"Tarzan of the Apes" is a novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the first in a series of books about the title character Tarzan. It was first published in the pulp magazine All Story Magazine in October, 1912; the first book edition was published in 1914. The character was so popular that Burroughs continued the series into the 1940s with two dozen sequels. The novel tells the story of John Clayton, born in the Western coastal jungles of equatorial Africa to a marooned couple from England.

The Warlord of Mars, by Edgar Rice Burroughs, is the third book in his famous Barsoom series. This novel continues where The Gods of Mars abruptly ended. John Carter's wife, the princess Dejah Thoris, is imprisoned in the Temple of the Sun by the vile pretender goddess Issus. It is said one has to wait an entire Barsoomian year before the room the prisoner is in revolves back to the entrance.

This is the second story in the Tarzan adventure novels. Tarzan has been in England where he has been learning about civilization, his heritage and how he fits into it all as Lord Greystoke. "The Son of Tarzan" is a novel by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, the fourth in his series of twenty-four books about the title character Tarzan. It was written between January 21 and May 11, 1915, and first published in the magazine "All-Story Weekly" as a six-part serial from December 4, 1915 to January 8, 1916. It was first published in book form by A. C. McClurg & Co. in March 1917 and has been reprinted numerous times since by various publishers.

As part of his campaign of torment and trickery against the native village, whose members he holds responsible for his ape foster mother's death, Tarzan captures Rabba Kega, the local witch doctor, and puts him in a trap the natives have set to catch a lion. The next day the warriors find they have caught the lion, but it has killed the witch doctor. They take the lion to the village. Tarzan secretly releases it and appears among them dressed in the lionskin he had previously used to trick the apes. Dropping the disguise, he reveals himself and leaves.

It all starts with a message in a bottle, a cry for help from a lost world. Submarine manufacturer Bowen Tyler was on an Atlantic journey to Europe, when his boat was torpedoed by one of his own submarines. He manages to survive, along with his faithful dog, Nobs, and with a little help from a passing tug boat, capture the U33, the very submarine that he built, and that had torpedoed him. With the German crew and the English tug crew, they drift to a lost island, almost as big as a continent, where exist many animals long since extinct elsewhere.

In this, the first book of the Tarzan series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, little baby Tarzan is adopted by the mighty "she" ape Kala after his parents Lord and Lady Greystroke are abandoned on the African shore by pirates and subsequently die. Tarzan grows up to be the mightiest of the apes, King of the Jungle, and will eventually find his Jane at the end of the vine.

John Carter returns to his beloved Mars, and engages in airborne combat with the dreaded Black Pirates. In his second search for the famed Dejah Thoris, Carter leads a revolt to free the Martian races from a devious cult that thrives on secretive slavery.

"The Oakdale Affair" is a mystery novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs. In the home of Jonas Prim, president of an Oakdale bank, a thief steals a servant's clothing and valuables belonging to Prim's daughter Abigail. Abigail is thought to be absent visiting Sam Benham, whom her parents want her to marry. Escaping, the thief later encounters a group of hobos and is taken for one of them, the Oskaloosa Kid. Two of the hobos attempt to murder the newcomer for the loot, who shoots at one and flees.

This novel was first published episodically in 1912, a year before Burroughs released Tarzan of the Apes, which would catapult him to international fame. This novel helped to define an emerging genre: science fiction.
