About this listen

Bloomsbury presents The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas, read by Elizabeth Evans.

The twist of a knife. The birth of a legend.

Step into the world of the #1 bestselling Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas with this collection of prequel novellas.

Celaena Sardothien is her kingdom’s most feared assassin. Though she works for the powerful Assassin’s Guild and its scheming master, Arobynn Hamel, she yields to no one and trusts only her fellow killer-for-hire, Sam. But when Arobynn dispatches her on missions that take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, Celaena finds herself acting independently of his wishes and questioning her own allegiance.

If she hopes to escape Arobynn’s clutches, Celaena will have to put her faith in her wits and her blade . . . knowing that if she fails, she’ll lose not just a chance at freedom but her life.

A prequel to the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass, this collection of five novellas explores the history of this cunning assassin and her enthralling—and deadly—world.

Included in this volume:
The Assassin and the Pirate Lord
The Assassin and the Healer
The Assassin and the Desert
The Assassin and the Underworld
The Assassin and the Empire

Some prequels don’t really matter when you read them but this is one you SHOULD read first. It makes the many characters in the later books easier to keep track of and gives a larger sense of things coming full circle.

I read this a little late in the series which was probably not the best move, but it definitely gives a great background to who celaena is and other characters. wasn't as enthralling as the rest, but worth the read.

great background

I have never read anything by this author, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Will be continuing the series. Loved the narration as well!

i didnt discover this gathering of novellas until after I'd listened to the first novel. frustrating and weird that such major info is in the novella rather than the actual book, that aside its still a good listen, a fun look into theblife of the best and youngest assassin alive. reminds me quite a bit of the original witcher books how it was novels.

I read this after the second book, since that is how it was published… I would recommend that order to everyone because this book gives away clues to the great plot twist of crown of midnight

Read it in paperback a few months ago and now I’m listening and it’s just as good. It’s almost as if I’m seeing the action play like a movie in my head!

So good

I am loving this series. I did read book 4 before book 3 per other readers. I agree that this gives great insight.

This was my first audiobook that I could actually pay attention to! My friend recommended this series to me and I have a copy of the book, but I always found myself either distracted or not having enough time. I love reading books when I can, but audiobooks are have been so nice to have! I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to focus on it since I have ADHD, but this was so captivating. 10/10 recommend!!

My ADHD brain loved it!
