Presiding over his own Pentecostal church in Memphis for the last 20 years, Green recently returned to the recording studio to record a set of gospel songs. A popular culture icon, he's had cameo roles in movies and TV shows. He lives in Memphis, Tenn.

Czech writer Arnost Lustig and celebrity chef Mario Batali on this edition of Fresh Air. Arnost Lustig is considered one of the country's most prominent writers. His new novel Lovely Green Eyes is the story of a 15-year-old girl in Auschwitz and the compromises she makes in order to stay alive. Lustig himself survived Thereisienstadt, Auschwitz, and Buchenwald camps.

Susan Orlean is a staff writer at The New Yorker. In 1994 she wrote a profile of David Friedman, one of the Friedman sons. David was known as Silly Billy, a popular clown who was a favorite at children's birthday parties in New York City. David's father and brother were accused of molesting children, and the family's story is told through their own home movies in the documentary film.

Los Angeles Lakers coach, Phil Jackson on this edition of Fresh Air. Currently, his L.A. Lakers are battling the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA finals.

Former Catholic priest Christopher Schiavone on this edition of Fresh Air. He talks about living as a closeted homosexual in the priesthood, finally having an affair with a man, going into therapy and then leaving the ministry. Andrew Meldrum was recently abducted and expelled from Zimbabwe by government authorities. He had been the Guardian's Zimbabwe correspondent, and was the last foreign journalist allowed to file from the country. Samantha Power was the founding executive director of the Harvard University Carr Center for Human Rights Policy.

Nuclear non-proliferation expert Joseph Cirincione on this edition of Fresh Air. He specializes in defense and proliferation issues at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He directs the Endowment's Non-Proliferation Project.

Historian and civil rights activist Roger Wilkins and writer Vernor Vinge on this edition of Fresh Air. Wilkins has written a new book Jefferson's Pillow. He considers our founding fathers and their conflicting attitudes toward race and how it affects his own sense of patriotism. Wilkins is a professor of history at George Mason University, a Pulitzer-prize winner, and former Assistant Attorney General under President Johnson.

Novelist Mark Salzman and remembering jazz trombonist J.J. Johnson on this edition of Fresh Air. Mark Salzman is the author of the new novel, Lying Awake, about a cloistered nun who discovers that her spiritual visions may be induced by epilepsy.
