Theodor Storm wurde 1817 in Husum geboren. Er starb 1888 in Hanerau-Hademarschen. Storm zählt zu den bedeutendsten Vertretern des literarischen Realismus. In seiner berühmtesten Novelle "Der Schimmelreiter" (1888) verknüpft er detailgenaue Erzählung mit atmosphärisch beeindruckenden Beschreibungen seiner norddeutschen Heimat.
