Acerca de esta escucha
The internationally renowned, clinically tested, revolutionary diet program to lose weight, fight disease, and live a longer, healthier life.
Can what you eat determine how long, and how well, you live? The clinically proven answer is yes, and The Longevity Diet is easier to follow than you'd think. The culmination of 25 years of research on aging, nutrition, and disease across the globe, this unique program lays out a simple solution to living to a healthy old age through nutrition. The key is combining the healthy everyday eating plan the audiobook outlines, with the scientifically engineered fasting-mimicking diet, or FMD; the FMD, done just three to four times a year, does away with the misery and starvation most of us experience while fasting, allowing you to reap all the beneficial health effects of a restrictive diet, while avoiding negative stressors like low energy and sleeplessness.
Valter Longo, director of the Longevity Institute at USC and the Program on Longevity and Cancer at IFOM in Milan, designed the FMD after making a series of remarkable discoveries in mice, then in humans, indicating that specific diets can activate stem cells and promote regeneration and rejuvenation in multiple organs to significantly reduce risk for diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's, and heart disease. Longo's simple pescatarian daily eating plan and the periodic fasting-mimicking techniques can both yield impressive results. Low in proteins and sugars and rich in healthy fats and plant-based foods, The Longevity Diet is proven to help you:
- Lose weight and reduce abdominal fat,
- Extend your healthy life-span with simple everyday changes,
- Prevent age-related muscle and bone loss, and
- Build your resistance to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's, and cancer.
Longo's healthy, life-span-extending program is based on an easy-to-adopt pescatarian plan along with the fasting-mimicking diet no more than four times a year, just five days at a time. Including 30 easy recipes for an everyday diet based on Longo's five pillars of longevity, The Longevity Diet is the key to living a longer, healthier, more fulfilled life.

All can be stoked by high uric acid levels. Our most respected scientific literature is bursting with evidence that elevated uric acid levels lie at the root of many pervasive health conditions, but mainstream medicine for the most part remains unaware of this connection.

A groundbreaking guide to the surprising source of good health. Genetics and lifestyle are thought to be the two most important determinants of good health. But that is not the whole story. We have a second genome, our gut bacteria, that sets the dial on our bodies. Unlike our DNA, we can influence the gut bacteria, or microbiota, to optimize all aspects of our health. In The Good Gut, noted Stanford researchers Justin and Erica Sonnenburg investigate how the trillions of microbes that reside in our gastrointestinal tract help define us.

Millions of people take calcium and Vitamin D supplements thinking they're helping their bones. The truth is, without the addition of Vitamin K2, such a health regimen could prove dangerous. Without Vitamin K2, the body cannot direct calcium to the bones where it's needed; instead, the calcium resides in soft tissue, like the arteries, leading to a combination of osteoporosis and atherosclerosis, or the dreaded "calcium paradox".

Now it seems to doom us to obesity. The good news is we can lose weight, but we need to cut calories. Refuting such weight-loss hype as paleo, keto, anti-gluten, anti-grain, and even vegan, Pontzer discusses how all diets succeed or fail: For shedding pounds, a calorie is a calorie.

Many of us live and operate from a mind-set of lack, scarcity, and limitation. We focus on what we don’t have - financial security, confidence, an intimate relationship - which keeps us feeling insecure and inadequate. We think “if only I could have those things, I could be happy”. But measuring wealth by money or material possessions leaves us feeling drained and spiritually empty. Constantly striving for more often means our ego is driving our thoughts, actions, and reactions, which prevents us from reaching something greater.

Wow really good!
This was life changing for me. I had thought that fasting diets were just a fad. And although many of them are, this book helped me realize that fasting is part of our evolution. I am overweight and part of me has been afraid to fast, thinking I need to feel full or satisfied. I didn’t know fasting helped our body. I thought fasting was unnatural and unhealthy for our bodies. However this book changed my mind and I am going to incorporate the basic longevity diet of two meals a day. There’s so much more good and life-changing advice in this, too much to mention here, just read it. He’s very scientific and logical in his approach. While also relatively simple and engaging.

Helpful & Informative
The information presented in this audio book plus the accompanying PDF were very helpful for me for determining a healthy direction. I am looking forward to discussing this approach with my dietitian.

Most important book you could read
"The Longevity Diet" by Valter Longo intrigued me primarily due to the high regard many podcasters hold for Dr. Longo, having frequently invited him to discuss his work. This admiration is echoed in the nutrition science community, where his research is extensively cited, reflecting the complexity of making informed dietary choices in everyday life. Longo's work stands out for its rigorous and methodical approach, backed by solid statistical analysis. Importantly, he maintains scientific integrity by acknowledging when his findings lack statistical significance, and elucidates the underlying mechanisms of his research when possible. Longo's ability to distill complex concepts into concise, comprehensible conclusions enhances the accessibility of his work. Beyond his scientific contributions, Longo's vibrant personality adds a unique dimension to his research, making "The Longevity Diet" not only informative but also engaging to read.

Exercise - excess nonessential proteins - fat increases + natural carbs - sugars = healthy longevity
An exercise regimen of long runs, swims, walks, and weight plus 50 grams minimum protein with the rest balanced out by a low amount of fats and high amount of complex carbs without added sugars is a great solution to healthy longevity.
It must be emphasized that people are living longer but and healthier. Also, the idea that people are living longer is disingenuous. If this was snow, the average age of life expectancy would match 80 years in the United States. It is now below that and falling.
