About this listen

Bumble BFF’s resident friend expert identifies the 9 most common conflict types in women's platonic relationships, sharing practical strategies to resolve issues and strengthen ties.

Using a combination of psychology, science, narrative, and a few of the author's signature scripts and out-of-the-box exercises, readers will learn:

  • The three "affinities" that bring women together (and tear them apart)
  • Scripts to navigate nine of the most challenging "friend types" (and how to know which one you are)
  • The covert strategies women use to hurt each other (and how to avoid them)
  • How to have a hard conversation with a friend (without losing the friendship)
  • Surprising ways that women's people-pleasing delays platonic intimacy (and how to stop it)
  • How to know if a friendship is worth saving (and what to do to recover)
  • How to make (and deepen!) connections with other women

In a time when we are often encouraged to opt out of friendships at any sign of friction, Danielle Bayard Jackson is showing us how to opt in.

Dear Listener,

Did a particular friendship or relationship spark my research for this audiobook?
"I had a close friendship that gradually dissolved a few years after college. Ever since that time, I've reflected on what could've been done—if anything—to reconcile. As a former high school teacher, my students confided their friendship issues to me after class, and I've also had high-achieving women privately confess their struggles to me. I'm curious about the mechanics of women's friendships, so it feels like such an honor to be able to study these relationships for a living."– Danielle Bayard Jackson, writer of Fighting for Our Friendships

Every teen girl and woman should read this….

First of all I am so happy that this type of book exists.

This wonderful in-depth look into women friendships. Its has grabbed me and has helped me centre myself with the understanding why women’s friendships are so important and also very fragile at the same time.
This is a mandatory read for every woman, from young to senior.

I honestly believe that every teen girl or woman would greatly benefit from reading this book to understand women friendships.

This books takes you on a voyage of different friendships and issues that may occur throughout the life cycle of the friendship.

*I probably would have preferred less counselling scripts a ‘how to respond’ to situations or issues that may come up in friendships.

But nevertheless, a beautiful read/listen. The author’s silky vibrant voice is much appreciated. Bravo!

Friendship Manual

This is a great (audio)book for navigating complex friendship problems with solid examples of conflict resolution and ways to deepen your friendships and make new ones!

The first part of the book delves into friendship dynamics and explains what makes the base of a good friendship.

The first part was okay, but I found the second part of the book to be the real gem that made the book worth buying: she goes into different types of friendship problems and offers explanations as to why the problems occur and ideas/scripts on how to handle them. It made me feel less alone in my friendship problems and gave me ideas on how to solve them.

She ends the book with advice on how and when to end friendships that aren’t working and how to make and keep new ones. That was also super useful and takes the book full circle.

She states in the beginning that the book is written from and for the perspective of a Western (US) culture. There are some cultural references and dynamics that people outside of that culture might not get, but I think it would still be helpful to women around the world. I’m from the US, but I live in Chile and can definitely apply what I’ve learned to my friendships here.

One aspect I loved was that Danielle narrated her own audiobook rather than hiring someone, I felt really connected to her words since I also follow her on Tiktok.

Definitely recommend this book to women, especially in their 20s and 30s, who want to improve their friendships. Thank you, Danielle!

Well done!

I read a lot of books and so I get a lot of book recommendations on my Instagram feed. I saw this author, promoting her book, and her message resonated with me. I thought she was speaking very intelligently on a topic that seems underserved. I went ahead and pre-ordered the book on the spot. I’m so glad I did because this book was fantastic and it was only made better by the author’s narration. I hope she continues her work and research in this area and expands on her ideas. I really really hope to read more. 10 out of 10 I recommend this book! Well done!

Honesty

Liked that it exposed my own insecurities and made me think about how I contributed to substandard or failed relationships. Whee!

Insightful and Actionable

This book answers a lot of the hard questions around women friendships and asks the reader to think about the type of friend they are. It helps put the hard times into perspective and gives actionable advice on how to be a better friend as well as how to build your friend community. I cannot recommend this book enough!
