"The Marvelous Land of Oz", published in 1904, is the second of L. Frank Baum's books set in the Land of Oz. As always, a lot of eccentric and fantastic things take place; such as a boy creating a magic sawhorse and making a pumpkin-headed man into a living, kind (but dumb) person...! Be prepared also to encounter a particularly wicked witch, as well as the good old Scarecrow.

"The People of the Black Circle" is one of the original books featuring Conan the Cimmerian (or Conan the Barbarian), written by American author Robert E. Howard. It is set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan kidnapping a regal princess of Vendhya (pre-historical India) and foiling a nefarious plot of world domination by the Black Seers of Yimsha. Due to its epic scope and atypical Hindustan flavor, the story is considered an undisputed classic of Conan lore and is often cited by Howard scholars.

Engineers have created an intelligent robot bird and its main objective is to prevent murder! The robot is encouraged to study what murder is, and its definition of murder expands until humans find themselves no longer able to operate on dying patients or to eat a salad because of the salad's feelings! What to do? Terminate the robots or starve to death.

"The Night of the Long Knives" is an uncompromisingly bleak and rugged sci-fi novella by Fritz Leiber, published in 1960. America has been transformed into a nuclear hellhole called the "Deathlands", where the survivors must do just that - survive - by pillaging and killing... "Glinda of Oz" is the fourteenth "Land of Oz" book written by L. Frank Baum, published in 1920. It is the last book of the original Oz series. Like most of the Oz books, the plot features a journey through some of the remoter regions of Oz; though in this case the pattern is doubled: Dorothy and Ozma travel to stop a war between the Flatheads and Skeezers; then Glinda and a cohort of Dorothy's friends set out to try to rescue them... Wonderful, eccentric, moving and funny as always!

"Nor Iron Bars A Cage"... focuses on a very serious subject; the question of what best to do with criminals in prison, and criminality overall. Is physical imprisonment best? What about mind altering practices? Even at the risk of damaging psyches permanently?

The author himself gives a great introduction to the book: "Many of these nursery rhymes are complete tales in themselves, telling their story tersely but completely; there are others which are but bare suggestions, leaving the imagination to weave in the details of the story."

This is the hair rising sequel to sci-fi master Murray Leinster's "The Mad Planet". Burl, our hero, still has to contend with the giant bugs and fungus; as well as even greater menaces! "The sky grew gray and then almost white. The overhanging banks of clouds seemed to withdraw a little from the steaming earth. Haze that hung always among the mushroom forests and above the fungus hills grew more tenuous, and the slow and misty rain that dripped the whole night long ceased reluctantly.
