About this listen

The phenomenal fifth book in the Hunger Games series!

Acclaimed actor Jefferson White, who starred in Paramount Network's Yellowstone as Jimmy Hurdstrom, brings his talent to the worldwide best-selling Hunger Games series as narrator of the Sunrise on the Reaping audiobook!

When you've been set up

to lose everything you love,

what is there left to fight for?

As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes.

Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves.

When Haymitch's name is called, he can feel all his dreams break. He's torn from his family and his love, shuttled to the Capitol with the three other District 12 tributes: a young friend who's nearly a sister to him, a compulsive oddsmaker, and the most stuck-up girl in town. As the Games begin, Haymitch understands he's been set up to fail. But there's something in him that wants to fight . . . and have that fight reverberate far beyond the deadly arena.

The book on Haymitch and his games was always going to be sad but the level to which it was, was unexpected. I loved every moment of it. And the ending was the cherry on top. All the call backs, all the returning characters, and learning more of the horrors of the games was a lot. I think this series hasn't missed with any of its books and has remained my favorite book series next to maybe the world of Middle Earth.

I liked meeting the younger Haymitch and the playing out of his story. It was good to see what created the older version of Haymitch due to the tradgedies he endured.

The evolution of relationships

the most heartbreaking story yet. suzanne collins has done it again. haymitch abernathy deserved so much more than what he got.

realizing why he calls katniss 'sweetheart' really punches you in the face.

sweetheart!

It's an excellent writing. I like this, but I've never been a big fan of Edgar Allen Poe poems. She put her own spin on it, but it was a bit much in the end.

Haymitch and Lenore

I didn’t love the voice in fact I greatly disliked it and I didn’t like when the voice said lyrics to the song it sounded wrong as well as when it was saying the poems that part was weird too. I liked the story but the voice was bad and it kinda ruined the story

Th storyline and the connections to the other books

You know how the book ends. You read it anyway.

Suzanne Collins has done something incredible with these prequels. Heartbreaking, true to the tone of the original series, but with a more mature writer at their backs. Better, she’s still got something to say. If you worried these were going to be soulless cash grabs (a fair concern), don’t. They’re biting, deeply political, an unabashed love letter to art and philosophy and loss and the things that inspire or explain real, lasting change.

The narrator gives an irreproachable performance, turning the audiobook into a wholly different experience. He’s likable, charming, with an incredible sense for the subtleties of voice acting. Even if you’ve read the book on page, his work is worth enjoying.

Here’s to you, Mrs. Collins. You’ve done it again, better than ever.

A Modern Greek Tragedy

The narrator is annoying. The storyline is good. I love hearing Haymitch’s story and finding out more about Plutarch.

I wanted to keep reading!

First off I nominate Jefferson White to play Haymitch in the movie! He narrates this superbly!
Wonderful book! It told Haymitch's story well and perfectly tied into the OG Trilogy and BOSAS. This book will pull your emotions in every direction in a tragic and beautiful way. I really wish I could experience it for the first time again. You truly will learn why Haymitch is every bit of himself good, bad and endearing.
Also as a huge fan of Poe and The Raven (I have an entire Poe sleeve tattooed) thanks Suzanne!!
Now I'm hoping for and wondering "what's next!?" Please give us more in this universe.

This book is wonderfully amazing!
