Střet a souboj dvou osobností spustí řetězec napínavých událostí, v nichž se zablýskne vzácný modrý diamant, ale nebude chybět ani pořádná dávka mužské cti, dámského půvabu, intrik a překvapivých a nápaditých zvratů. Lakonický a noblesní humor, který je pro postavu Arsèna Lupina příznačný, ještě vynikne v kontrastu s metodickým Holmesem a jeho železnou logikou a téměř zázračnou předvídavostí. Souboj dvou nejdůmyslnějších a nejkreativnějších mužů, kteří ačkoli každý na jiné straně zákona, zkříží samozřejmě zbraně podle pravidel dvorské etikety, může začít.

Dans cette étrange aventure, Arsène Lupin va essayer de retrouver un voleur qui est caché depuis un mois sur le lieu de son crime sans que nul ne parvienne à mettre la main dessus... Le seul qui sortira vainqueur de cette péripétie ne sera pas le voleur ni le volé, mais tout simplement le gentleman cambrioleur.

Lorsqu'Arsène Lupin décide de s'attaquer au coffre-fort de Monsieur et Madame Imbert, qui est supposé contenir plusieurs millions en bijoux, titres et valeurs, il sait qu'une partie difficile s'engage. Les Imbert ne sont pas des enfants de chœur, leur hôtel particulier est un vrai château et Mme Imbert ne se sépare jamais de la clé du coffre. Cette histoire lui réservera bien des surprises.

Arsène Lupin, qui se fait appeler Guillaume Berlat, est assailli dans un train par un mystérieux voyageur, qui lui vole son argent et ses papiers. Les autorités sont persuadées que cet intrépide voleur est Arsène Lupin. Et voilà donc le vrai Arsène Lupin, aidé par la police, qui part à la recherche du faux Arsène Lupin.

Léontine Zalti, ancienne cantatrice et veuve du conte d'Andillot, fut immensément riche et admirée. Les plus grands joailliers d'Europe travaillaient pour elle comme on travaillait jadis pour les rois et les reines.

La baronne Repstein s'est enfuie avec les millions de son mari. L'inspecteur Ganimard s'est aussitôt lancé à sa poursuite. Mais Arsène Lupin ne croit pas à cette version officielle et décide de s'intéresser de plus prêt à l'étrange baron Repstein.

Enfermé à la prison de La Santé à Paris depuis son retour d'Amérique, Arsène Lupin clame à qui veut l'entendre qu'il n'assistera pas à son procès, puisqu'il est bien décidé à s'évader au plus vite. L'inspecteur Ganimard et les forces de police feront tout pour l'en empêcher. Mais peut-on empêcher Lupin d'atteindre ses objectifs ?
