Stay in Control as a Parent

If you’re struggling with keeping your cool around the kids, this book is exactly what you need. It will help you create a better relationship with them and bring much-needed peace to your home.

Here’s what I found super helpful:

1. The book explains the stages of anger in a way that’s easy to understand. It’s helped me figure out why I get so mad and what to do about it.

2. It shows you how to use your anger in a way that actually improves your relationship with the kids, instead of making things worse.

3. The author gives fantastic tips on how to calm down quickly, which is great for keeping the kids’ emotions in check too.

4. The book gives real, effective ways to manage and discipline the kids without losing your cool.

I’ve found this book incredibly useful because it doesn’t just tell you to stop being angry. It actually shows you how to manage your feelings in a way that benefits everyone. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or frustrated dealing with your kids, you should definitely check this out.

Heartfelt and honestly such an important topic

Anger management is perhaps one of the most important topics (in my opinion) for a parent to learn, this book outlines techniques for how to manage emotions and improve your relationship with your child. It also breaks down anger into different stages (this part was really eye-opening for me) and offers strategies for how to prevent outbursts. You will learn how to reframe your child's behavior and use anger in a more constructive manner. The narrator's performance is solemn but also soothing and I think it is the perfect delivery for this kind of topic.

Great strategies for reframing your parenting mindset

As a first time mom to a one-year-old, I’m brand new to the challenges that come with parenting a toddler. From the very start of this book, I felt seen in my struggles. The introduction had a line that stood out to me where the author stated, “in parenting your children, you are re-parenting you.” I’d never quite thought about it in this way before, but this makes perfect sense and helps put the experiences I’ve had into perspective.

The one aspect of this book that confuses me is the way in which it’s laid out. Content is split up into parts, chapters, and stages. I found all of this difficult to follow, especially in audio format. Most notably, this makes it harder for me to find my favorite parts that I’d like to go back to for a second listen.

Still, I believe the lessons taught in this book are incredibly valuable. Understanding the importance of reframing your child’s behavior through a positive lens has the ability to prevent anger from its root and greatly strengthen connection. I especially appreciated how many personal examples the author used to highlight the fact that she truly could relate. This drives home something that the book mentions over and over—that you are not alone, and that change is possible. I’d certainly recommend this book to any other parents uncertain about how to navigate challenging situations with their children.
