This is final installment in Edith Nesbit's classic trilogy of time-traveling adventures by four enterprising children.

The Story of the Treasure Seekers is a novel by Edith Nesbit. It depicts the story of Dora, Oswald, Dicky, Alice, Noel, and Horace Octavius (H. O.) Bastable, and their efforts to assist their widowed father and recover the fortunes of their family. Through magic or complex creative play, the children face dangers that they overcome through pluck. The notable feature of Nesbit's stories is the depiction of the realistic arguments and faults of the children. The story is told from a child's point of view.

One day, a man who has recently enherited his aunt's house, discovers a portait of a woman in the attic. He brings it downstairs and becomes so infatuated by the woman it portrays that he prays she will come to life. By some mysterious power she does, and he learns that the two of them have a daunting history.

Continuing the magical adventures of siblings Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane, and their baby brother, the sequel to Edith Nesbit's Five Children and It opens with the hatching of a phoenix in the children's very own home. "The Magic City" tells the story of Philip, who goes off to live with his new step sister Lucy. He has trouble adjusting at first, thrown into a world different from his previous life and abandoned by his sister while she is on her honeymoon. To entertain himself he builds a giant model city from things around the house: game pieces, books, blocks, bowls, etc. Then through some magic he finds himself inside the city, and it is alive with the people he has populated it with. Some soldiers find him and tell him that two outsiders are bound to show up.
