Acerca de esta escucha

This book contains strong language, and adult themes that may not be suitable for everyone.

Jenny sits in the same seat on the same train every week, seeing familiar faces come and go.

Until a chance encounter shatters her world.

Sixteen years ago, Jenny survived a traumatic ordeal that left her best friend, Susie, missing and presumed dead. The world has its theories about what happened to Susie Patterson, and one of those theories points the finger at Jenny.

Now she lives a quiet life, volunteering at a crisis helpline while trying to deal with her own anxiety and the true crime fans obsessed with finding her missing friend. Then, on the way to her usual shift, Jenny is certain she sees Susie sitting in coach D.

But will anyone believe her?

Seeing Susie plunges Jenny back into a nightmare of forgotten memories and haunting fears. As the past claws its way into her present, she must unravel the truth about what happened sixteen years ago.

But the deeper she digs, the more she realises that some secrets are better left buried.

I’m not usually hung up on whether a story’s realistic vs. a bit far-fetched, but something about this one just seemed…over the top. Just couldn’t buy it. Wish I hadn’t literally bought it. Performance was great, though.

Great performance, didn’t love the story

I hate to give up on a book but the entire premise is so far fetched that it felt like a waste of time

Couldn’t Finish

I wanted to like this story, but it was not a clever one and lacked a smooth rhythm.

good narrator, story not impressive.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were easy to understand and I was glad for Jenny’s resolve although it was a surprise.

read well, interesting not trite and predictable but very very entertaining. audio even and easy to listen to

kept moving

at times, there was just too much description that did not add to the story-line, and, in fact, almost made me stop listening. I am glad u finished, in spite of that, because the twisty ending was enjoyable!

Good plot

Interesting take on the formation of a cult. I could absolutely believe that people would be sucked into it. The pacing was good and I enjoyed the “twist”. Definitely some repetitiveness that started to irritate. The ending for me wrapped up a little too neatly.

Different kind of thriller

This book seems boring and predictable in the beginning, but it grabs you and takes you on unexpected paths searching for lost memories to save someone.

Surprising twists and turns

Story had a lot of potential. I didn’t find the main character like able and the narration wasn’t great. I stuck with it through to the end wanting to find out how it ended. My overall review: weird book!

Overall disappointing

The story had enough interesting angles and twist to keep me from giving up, but there was a LOT of repetition and story was about twice as long as it needed to be. Didn’t help that the narrator kept reading a chant that was repeated many times in very very slow motion. It was also weird how she pronounced says as “sayz”- I tried to look up whether it was some kind of Manchester dialect thing, but didn’t find evidence of that.

Interesting, but way too long
