End Pain.
Foster Personal and Professional Growth.
Live Better.

While endings are a natural part of business and life, we often experience them with a sense of hesitation, sadness, resignation, or regret. But consultant, psychologist, and best-selling author Dr. Henry Cloud sees endings differently. He argues that our personal and professional lives can only improve to the degree that we can see endings as a necessary and strategic step to something better. If we cannot see endings in a positive light and execute them well, he asserts, the "better" will never come, either in business growth or our personal lives.

In this insightful and deeply empathetic book, Dr. Cloud demonstrates that, when executed well, "necessary endings" allow us to proactively correct the bad and the broken in our lives in order to make room for the professional and personal growth we seek. However, when endings are avoided or handled poorly - as is too often the case - good opportunities may be lost, and misery repeated.

Drawing on years of experience as an executive coach and a psychologist, Dr. Cloud offers a mixture of advice and case studies to help listeners:

  • Know when to have realistic hope and when to execute a necessary ending in a business or with an individual
  • Identify which employees, projects, activities, and relationships are worth nurturing and which are not
  • Overcome people's resistance to change and create change that works
  • Create urgency and an action plan for what's important
  • Stop wasting resources needed for the things that really matter

Knowing when and how to let go when something, or someone, isn't working - a personal relationship, a job, or a business venture - is essential for happiness and success. Necessary Endings gives listeners the tools they need to say good-bye and move on.

Ending is a good beginning

I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in growing or becoming unstuck in an area of life. I gave it 5 stars because I’ve found it worth listening to at least twice. Some of the things I needed to end were attitudes towards myself and I gained a better understanding of some of my behaviors.

I know but it's Hard!

Dr. Cloud has done it again! He has made the case for doing what I know I should be doing and has done so in a way that makes sense and expresses all the advantages of letting go of what doesn't work.

In my personal and professional life, I clearly see areas where necessary endings should be applied and I see why I haven't. I lacked courage. So that is my next growth opportunity. Develop the courage muscle and do what needs to be done.

Thanks, Dr. Cloud for sharing your amazing talent in career and life coaching. This book has been a Blessing!

refreshing solid perspective on critical issue

Loved having Dr Cloud read the text. Much to think about and good criteria for making needed changes in life. I recognize now more clearly the role that endings must play in all our lives.

Slow in the middle

This book offers variety practical concepts for necessary endings. Really enjoyed learning about how to mine six reality. Felt like the middle of the book with me talking about pruning went on to long. That should've been necessary. LOL. But all in all I rate this book a four star for all the practical concepts that you will learn throughout the book.

Just needed.

Everyone in life is going to have to take the step to make necessary endings and this book normalizes it. It gives you the permission we never needed but act as if we did.

It’s just a must read annually to be reminded to let it go. Biblically sound.

This book is not just for business.

Henry does an amazing job of relating the principle of necessary endings to every aspect of life. We go through endings regularly in every area of life. If you have a negative view of endings read this book. No matter what your view of endings even if you have no specific view of endings this book will teach you how to end well. Good endings make room for new beginnings.
