Publisher's summary

Danger, betrayal, and enticing forbidden love clash in book three of #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout's Harbinger trilogy!

When Angels Fall

Trinity Marrow has lost the battle and her beloved Protector. Even with both demons and Wardens on her side, Trin may not win the war against the Harbinger.

Bringing Lucifer back to the world to fight the Harbinger is probably a really, really bad idea, but they're out of options—and the world's ultimate fallen angel is the only being powerful enough to impact the outcome.

As Trin and Zayne form a new and more dangerous bond and Lucifer unleashes Hell on earth, the apocalypse looms and the world teeters on the end of forever. Win or lose, one thing is certain—nothing will ever be the same.

Worth the Wait

It’s been almost a year since I finished book two of the trilogy. I marked events by how much time was left before this release. Back then, I hoped the pandemic would be over by the time we were able to find out what happened after the jaw dropping cliffhanger of book 2.

Well, not quite post pandemic now, but life is normalizing and I imagine that relief will always somehow tie into the feelings I have for this book.

Armentrout is a forceful writer. The dialogue is effortlessly natural and believable. Even though this is a teen book, she never talks down to the intelligence of her audience. It’s glossy and sophisticated. If the story is like Milan, the top super model is Lauren Fortgang who really applied her considerable talent to tell the story. She is always totally invested in her work, but I got the feeling she really especially cares about this story and the characters in it. She perfectly portrays Trinity. Her characterization of Zane is a bit different than the first two books, and at first, he didn’t go as deep, and then I realized there was a nuanced intention and purpose to the distance she created. That just blew me away, and I began to listen more intently. My appreciation of Fortgang’s performance held me captive for the rest of the book. It is a special treat when author and narrator are so elegantly paired. Good job, you two!

I deducted a star from the story because I feel it got somewhat rutted in the first half. I know what happens is monumental, but I don’t feel it required almost half the book to get that point across. I wanted to spend more time with past favorites. I haven’t heard if there will be a spin off, so I treated this book as if it were the last time I’d get to see these characters.

The ending is fantastic. JLA did herself, the book, and her characters proud.

Amazing series, absolutely brilliant narration

This book starts where the last one left off, Trinity lost the battle against Gabriel and Zayne. Now she needs to find a way to fight back, she will try to bring Lucifer top side and find a way to destroy The Harbinger. You will have beloved characters from this world meeting to help and you will be in for another entertaining and fantastic adventure. Will Trinity win this time? Find out and if you love audiobooks I totally recommend getting this one in audio, Lauren Fortgang is the narrator and she is absolutely brilliant!

Loved it!

I genuinely liked this entire series! I will say that the HEA came with some twists. I would have preferred a little more of life after though. It's a huge annoyance when books have an epic battle with characters you fall in love with, then they only give you 7 minutes of wrap up before it ends. I need a little more out of an ending if I have spent 35 hours or more with a story.

I love this author!

I loved this ending so much. When Zayne died at the end of Book Two it was heartbreaking. I kind of wish she'd focused on the effect on Trin a little bit longer. Bringing him back in the first few pages of the book seemed a little fast. I disagree that the first part of the book dragged, which one of the reviewers stated. Any faster and the plot development would have been even more shot than it was by bringing him back so fast. Things I liked: 1) this narrator is phenomenal, which is half the importance in an audiobook - I have almost 1,000 audiobooks in my Audible library and she is one of the best narrators I have ever heard (whoever said she was bad - well, I'm just not sure where they are coming from); 2) Armentrout reviews the prior story, which is important for people like me that read book two when it came out and then waited a year for book three; 3) the story was amazing and left an opening for a possible new series or more books with these characters. What I didn't like: 1) my main complaint about Armentrout, who is one of my top three favorite authors, is how she skips around releasing books in different series and you have to wait so long if you don't wait for them all and even then, when you think it's the last one, it's not (I got burned big time on Origin); 2) the ending seemed rushed (too quick of a wrap-up and the "gems" thread was just plain unfinished); 3) I'm not sure what the issue was, but I didn't feel like I was "inside" the story like I usually do in Armentrout's novels (maybe this was a function of the "rushed ending" issue, I'm not sure). Overall, I am still giving this book a five star rating because, comparatively speaking, most authors in this genre just do not even come anywhere close to this level of writing. I guess my "dislikes" are more because I am comparing Armentrout to herself. She just didn't live up to Jennifer L. Armentrout in this book. I think THAT is a function of the fact that she tries to do too many series at once and it was too long between book two and book three in this series. I think maybe Armentrout was not "inside" the story herself, as much as she usually is, due to the time between books and her attention to other series. If an author is not inside the story, living the characters, it really shows in how the reader feels reading it. Now, she's not even finished with the "Blood and Ash" and "Origin" series and she's started the new "Flesh and Fire" series. Please stop doing this, Ms. Armentrout - it's hurting your craft, which is a crime.
