Publisher's summary

Emotional expert meets political firestorm.

An illuminating guide that illustrates exactly how to transform the outrage, relinquish the anxiety, and transcend the fear. From NBC and ABC emotional expert, best-selling author, and host of Politically Emotional radio.

"Being outraged simply isn't enough. This book offers helpful tools for transforming outrage into action. Worth the read!" (Van Jones, CNN, host of The Van Jones Show)

Diane Altomare has been guiding people to embrace their shadows and make peace with their past, for over 18 years and has become fascinated by the psychological behavior of people, as a result of the new level of intense emotional upset thrust into our daily lives by this administration, the media's coverage of it, and the social media debates about it.

Many of us are not only feeling more stress and anxiety but are growing increasingly concerned about the impact it's having on our emotional well-being, our relationships, our country, and our democracy.

Despite political differences with neighbors, friends, or family members, we must choose whether we will respond with hatred and insults or transcend the emotional upset and emerge more peaceful, bringing kindness, love, and solutions to the issues our nation is grappling with.

In Emotionally Trumped Out, Altomare reveals how to transform every political conflict into inspired action, love, and healing. How every way you are being emotionally affected is an opportunity to transform what's taking place and create more of what you truly desire. Not only do we need this guidance individually but our country needs it now, more than ever.

"This book contains nuggets of wisdom to usher you to a place of more peace and less fear, anger or anxiety.” (Betsy Chasse, award-winning filmmaker of What the Bleep Do We Know)

After a few minutes of listening, you will feel more empowered, hopeful, and at peace.

Dealing With Emotions

Dealing with emotions.
After reading the first chapter I cannot wait to read more. There is so much negativity in our country right now and maybe this will help us understand where and how it has all come from. My husband and I talk about how events or conversations that happened to us as teenagers still trigger negative emotional responses today...40 something years later...even though on the surface we seem to not be bothered by them. Then something unexpected happens and we are brought back to that memory and how we react to it. This first chapter is eye opening in that if our president has not dealt with emotions this is probably why he reacts so hateful to people whether it be male or female. That is what is still inside him. It seems after thinking about something he changes his tune....but for the rest of us it already triggers deep inside of us on his first emotional response.
I have followed Diane on her journey of this topic through social media and radio, and look forward to finishing this book. For everyone that reads it I believe it can be the start to understanding why it is so important to deal with our deep down emotions and becoming a better person and for all a better nation.

Finding some peace with this guidance...

Diane has again supported us with this guide on how to navigate the trauma and charge of this divide we are emotionally affected by with this administration. We are reminded of a way to acknowledge the pain and outrage of what we are witnessing without letting it charge us into further divisive action. There is a way for us to come together, and the light we can find by doing the work has shown me that the outrage checked, dealt with and channeled will be more productive than my current state of angry rants and hand wringing on Facebook. Thanks, Diane!

We are in the darkest of times...

We are in the darkest of times. We currently have a POTUS who is deliberately dividing our country into polar opposites, with the help of polar media outlets, which inevitably does nothing but push emotional trigger buttons all over us! The result is name calling, shut down, stone walling, avoidance behaviors, cognitive dissonance and anger-induced anxiety. Bravo, Diane Altomare, for igniting our repair buttons in the middle of a country at odds with itself, through her work in "Emotionally Trumped Out". Go deep inside and identify your trigger button. Access it, heal it, and use it to turn the chaos into peace. I've done the work with the help of her first book, "Clarity", then topped off the process with "Trumped Out". This shadow work is exactly what we need to heal a nation. POTUS has been put in place to act as a catalyst for healing. His bullying, name calling, and insulting behaviors are unacceptable within a country that is crying out for peace. Read the book. Practice the philosophy. Find peace within. Thank you for this home run, Diane! This fan can't get enough!
Here's to a better tomorrow, StaciJoy

Love Trumps Fear

I devoured this book in a couple days, and have found that in all my conversations, my listening has grown deeper, even with those that share my ideology, but react from old wounds. I’m witnessing myself, noticing the triggers and instead of being reactive, waiting and evaluating how I can contribute to the healing process. I’m reminding myself that I want to be part of the solution, not contribute to the problem.

This book is insightful to ways in which we can consciously build bridges in our communication, to find pathways to overcome our individual differences (that keep us stuck), and discover our common ground, to value each and our own, our universal humanness. Bravo!

Trump Is Not The Villain - Darn It!

As much as I would LOVE to blame this outrageous, chaotic, crazy and seemingly sick state of affairs being played out in our country right now on Donald Trump, I can clearly see, through Diane's thoughtful and timely book, this is misguided. I have never known such a level of anger and fear in my life...and I've been through a lot! This book has guided me to look at what it is I am truly committed to - my fear and anger or the collective good. Of course, the good I can clearly see is that the silent, sleeping giant has been awakened and we are (I am) now involved and participating in what is not only our right but our duty. I can see that I can use this anger and fear (being that it is all energy) to move forward on what is most important to me instead of allowing this anger to hold me back and keep me stuck. The difficult part is to see my own outrageousness, craziness and even "sickness" that is being reflected back to me by this administration (it's not just Trump that gets under my skin!) Now that I am able to acknowledge my feelings and know that they are "ok," I'm feeling less anxious and fearful (and spewing less obscenities at the TV or radio) after having read this book. Just focusing on myself keeps me on a more positive pathway. My commitment is to inclusion, the common good and a livable world for all - I now choose to keep that in mind! If you're feeling anything close to the kinds of intense upset I have during this past 2 years, this is a must read!

So needed right now!

This is a challenging time and we are all being called to dive deep to find common ground with each other, especially the people that we politically disagree with. This book is brilliant at doing exactly that. It shows us how to be gracefully tolerant and compassionate towards each other instead of finding a reason to attack, insult or separate ourselves from our colleague, best friend or family member because of their opposing political view. I felt more empowered and at peace with each page I read. And even more so, hopeful that we can bridge this gap of division and come together again. Thank you, Diane Altomare, for his perfect Christmas gift!

Not at all what I expected, but better!!

I thought this was going to be a Trump bashing book, and I have to admit I was looking forward to it, because I often find myself on the Trump bashing wagon. But Diane reminds us to look at our shadows and ask ourselves why this administration triggers us to lash out. She encourages us to be decent human beings, rather than petty human beings, and to have civil conversations with those we disagree with.
It’s ok to have differing views, but lets be compassionate humans and not promote hate and violence among us because of it! Good job Diane!

Balanced & Insightful

I loved this book & recommend that anyone concerned with today's political climate & the division in our country read it. Diane does a brilliant job of guiding those on opposing sides through the process of seeing another perspective, rather than simply reacting emotionally. This is a start in the process for resolving the deep division we are now facing. The book gives so many great examples and illustrates how to work through conflict in a respectful way. This is so needed now! I know my own frustration level was lessened a bit by this book and it gives me hope that we can come together and understand one another. Thanks Diane!

We ALL Need This!

Diane Altomare has written the definitive "instructional manual" for getting through these times. It is not, as some would assume, a book written from a place of hate. Instead, what Altomare has fashioned is a piece of work that provides us with self-reflection so that we don't operate from that place of hate. She has provided us with a way to call out injustices without resorting to the lower levels of discourse. I highly recommend this book, or field guide, because we ALL need to understand that we have a voice, but we also a have a brain and a heart to go along with it!

Healing the divide...

I want to say THANK YOU to Diane Altomare...your book has been a godsend! After Donald Trump was elected, I found myself in a very dark place and becoming the kind of person that I despise (hateful, angry, and self-righteous). Recently, I began practicing Kundalini yoga/meditation in an effort to bring myself out of the bitterness that has taken root in this country. Then one day I saw a FB post about your book and I am currently listening to it through Audible. Your insights and examples have helped me to better understand my feelings about the current political atmosphere, and have inspired me to put those feelings toward productive action rather than feeding my anger in ways that only fuel the fire. What a gift for ANYONE trying to heal from the divide! Thank you!!!
