Very Helpful

Although I'm still in a great deal of pain, gaining a better perspective on my loved ones pain and struggles as well as my responsibility in the relationships has opened the path forward and provided some direction for me. I should be an expert since I've been experiencing BPD in my life from my earliest awareness., my father, two of my brothers, my husband, and both my children - plus I've provided care for my grandmother and mother in law with Alzheimers.

I've been blaming myself and trying to fix situations and people all my life. I'm finally finding a way to release myself from blame and guilt, realizing nothing can be changed except myself, my thoughts, and my behaviors. I'm planning to reread this book often hoping to successfully navigate a way to love them all and build positive relationships without being destroyed in the process.

Now it all makes sense.

Very informative. If you believe a person in your life has BPD then you’re probably exhausted at this point and searching for answers. This book will relieve much of your frustration and give you the understanding you’ve been struggling to find.

I’d also recommend you read The Four Agreements. You’ll need to remain mindful of all of them for this battle.

So many aha moments

There were so many moments of clarity that I obtained while reading this book. Most notably was when they discussed how people with BPD or narcissism use interactions with other people as a way to manage their pain. It made me realize I had become this person’s handler. It’s an impossible task, one that you will never be able to do well enough; the person with BPD/narcissism will always let you know that you’re failing, and you will have traded in your soul to do it. They also discussed how when you begin to set boundaries, you are breaking a contract that you didn’t know you signed. Boy, did that ring true. I am in the process of removing this person from my life. Not everyone may reach this conclusion. However, with my personal situation, I now know that this person in my life has pushed me to the point where I have to choose them or myself. I have chosen myself, and have never felt more peace because of it. Thank you to the authors for providing so much clarity. I also find it no coincidence that people in my life and I would use the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz as a reference to discuss this person in my life. And then, when reading this book, I find out the support group is named after the Wizard of Oz. That one just hit home for me!

Helping myself be the best husband I can be

Not knowing what B.P.D. is or that my husband had until after we got married was the hardest thing I've ever had to face in my love life. I really liked that this book no only had licensed doctors speaking their studies but also shared stories of other, whether it was someone who has B.P.D. or some who had a loved one with the disorder. Since listening to this book I have scheduled my first therapy session, haven't been to therapy since I was a child and I am ready to learn as much as I can to be the best husband I can be, for the husband with Borderline Personality Disorder.

Understanding others

Much valuable information wished I had years ago explaining the reason for the rages, anger and abuse. Explaining why I am the way I am and the kind of people I attract. Knowledge is power and growth is possible.
