Practical and Pithy

Author Sean has created a guide to personal change that is smart and clear eyed. As the title suggests, the language is at times salty. If the occasional swear jar word will make your head explode, maybe not for you.

I’ve know Sean for awhile and I’m impressed with his accomplishments. Full disclosure, he did offer me the workbook in exchange for this review. And, if you are like me, you’ll be wanting the workbook. Why? First, it’s top shelf advice. Second, it goes by so fast in the audio book, it’s hard to take in. You have to stop and reflect and apply. Reading might be easier. Reminds me of a video my showed me yesterday of a crazy feeding machine on a conveyor belt that launches food at peoples faces. Cannot chew fast enough. It did not help that I listened to it while doing things like operating a tractor or welding.

Sean does a good job reading this but he’s no voice actor and there’s something funky with the audio in chapter one. I’m an AV professional with decades of recording and editing so you may not notice or care about small imperfections as much. The recording and performance are good enough but not up to the standards of many audio books I listen to.

Great no nonsense approach.

The authors approach to identifying and confronting thoughts and behaviors is just what I needed to hear. Being conscious of the ruts we put and keep ourselves in and confronting that reality to make a change. Again just what I need to hear.

Great title even better book!

Bypass the Bullsh*t!: Take Real Steps to Change

The title is catchy enough to get someone to start the book but the content really is worth the investment. Self help is everywhere it seems. Some of it is amazing, some good but unfortunately so much of it not really worth the time and effort. A bunch of okay ideas rehashed and repeated till they become cliché. I think Mr. Stark has struck a vein with this title.

As a lover of self-help, teacher and coach I know how the right training at the right time can be life transforming. It has been for me, my life, my business and my family. The bad side to see so many people get caught up in what I call the "learned helplessness" of self-help. Reading, listening and attending everything but not really moving forward. This title adds that much needed dose of "self accountability" to self-help. The part where you have to be willing to help yourself. To finally make a decision and take action. In short; To Bypass The Bullsh*t.

This book (audible) is a great reminder that after the affirmations, the chants, the journaling and the 4 hour "gratitude" sessions you better start what you want to finish.

I highly recommended it. Might save you months or years in your progress. All the best!

Real, Raw and Relateable

I’ve followed Sean on IG for many years. This is the first time, I’ve been drawn to his books. This book caught my attention because it’s a different version of self help. It’s getting down to the knitty gritty and as the title suggests, bypasses the bull. It doesn’t talk affirmations and positive thinking to get to a better place. It talks about how to dig deep, face the root of discontent and actually supplies some tangible tactics to do so; to actually start taking action to transform. It’s very personal, you can tell. It’s very down to earth and truthful in that what works for most, may not work for you. You must get to your foundation and determine what roads lead to healing for YOU. The commonality in all self help though is you have to put in the work. He definitely gets more into finding your underlying causes and I love this because if you don’t know the root of your pain it’s all just temporary fixes and isn’t a true transformation or level up; it’s just a façade until the next trigger arises. Another great piece is that there is a difference between knowing positive affirmations and positive mindset quotes and being able to actually do what they say. For example if you’re pissed off and someone tells you to think positive, it most likely will just increase your negative reaction… at the time. We need to learn some techniques to actually help us flip that negative energy and script to positive with practicing the positive mindset by first learning how to calm our bodies. He offers some really great breath techniques.
I quite enjoyed the book and it does provide some new perspectives to some old ideas and better yet, it supplies some actionable steps to actually achieve the goals of a better life not simply a gushy feel good book like many self help affirmation style books can be. I am a person who does very well when I know what actions to take to get from point A to point Z. I highly recommended “Bypass the Bullsh*t!” If your ready to transition from where you currently are to one level closer to where you wish/ want to be.

Excellent book it you are looking for advice on change. The author writes in an easy to understand method without talking down to you. As the author reads his own book you feel like you are sitting with an old friend having a cup of coffee.
