Acerca de esta escucha
Ten protocols to counteract the “chronic ease” that creates our modern epidemic of dis-ease, from a wellness industry leader who can prove they work—because he’s tested them on himself.
Exclusive Bonus: Guided Meditations designed specifically for this audiobook experience.
Jeff Krasno, the founder and CEO of the global wellness platform Commune Media, thought he was pretty healthy. Though he suffered from brain fog, chronic fatigue, and bouts of insomnia, those symptoms seemed utterly normal in today’s society. When he learned he had diabetes, his first thought was, How can that be? I run a wellness company!
His diagnosis propelled him to consult every expert at his disposal and engage in intensive “me-search” in order to turn his health around. On this journey, he began to form a larger picture of what’s wrong with our health in the modern world. In Good Stress—co-authored with his wife, Schuyler Grant, who shepherded him through 300-plus interviews with doctors and helped distill the results into actionable information—Jeff shares what he’s learned and outlines a practical program for listeners to reset their own health.
Jeff explains that the comforts and conveniences of modern life in the developed world undermine our biology. Humans evolved with Paleolithic stressors and scarcity, which conferred health and resilience.
Modern life sets us up for diabetes, dementia, heart disease, cancer, and more. Chronic disease is the result of chronic ease: an endless abundance of calories, sedentary desk jobs, exposure to blue light, and separation from nature. To come back into balance, we need to thoughtfully subject our bodies and minds to the stressors we’re naturally built for.
This book distills the hundreds of conversations that Jeff has had with acclaimed teachers and practitioners in mind-body wellness, including Gabor Maté, Mark Hyman, Marianne Williamson, and Dr. Sara Gottfried. Jeff gives readers uncommonly wise and relatable guidance for 10 practices to extend both our lifespan and our healthspan, including:
- Time-restricted eating
- Cold and heat exposure
- Light therapy
- Eating “stressed plants”
- Building our “psychological immune system” and more
For each practice, Jeff shares his own experience (there’s a great story of how Wim Hof finally convinced him to get into an ice bath); unpacks the science behind it, the place it has in our culture, and the effects it has on body and mind; and explains how to undertake it safely and mindfully.

Whether it’s anxiety about going to the doctor, boiling rage when we’re stuck in traffic, or devastation after a painful break-up, our lives are filled with situations that send us spiraling. But as difficult as our emotions can be, they are also a superpower. Far from being “good” or “bad,” emotions are information. When they’re activated in the right ways and at the right time, they function like an immune system, alerting us to our surroundings, telling us how to react to a situation, and helping us make the right choices. But how do we make our emotions work for us rather than against us?

Can changing your thoughts improve your health? We tend to live our lives as though our ailments—our stiff knees or frayed nerves or diminished eyesight—can change only in one direction: for the worse. Award-winning social psychologist Ellen J. Langer’s life’s work proves the fault in this negative outlook as well as the healing power of its alternative: mindfulness—the process of active noticing where we are not bound by past experience or conventional wisdom. In The Mindful Body, Dr. Langer unpacks her assumption-busting findings and outlines her bold new theory of mind-body unity.

Reseñas de la Crítica
“In Good Stress, Jeff Krasno eloquently bridges the ancient wisdom of Eastern thought with modern scientific insights. This profound work reveals how Buddhist teachings on impermanence and interconnection anticipated groundbreaking discoveries in epigenetics, neuroplasticity, and the microbiome. This book is a masterful exploration of how embracing life’s challenges can unlock our innate potential for growth, healing, and transformation.”
— Deepak Chopra, best-selling author of The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success
“In Good Stress, my longtime friend Jeff Krasno takes us on an extraordinary journey from CEO to health advocate, blending wisdom from Eastern philosophy with the science of functional medicine. I’ve watched Jeff transform from a successful business leader at Wanderlust to a passionate storyteller who dives deep into the power of adversity mimetics. This book beautifully weaves ancient teachings on impermanence and interconnection with practical protocols that challenge the body and mind, showing us that true growth comes from embracing life’s hard edges. It’s a must-read for anyone ready to unlock the healing potential of ‘good stress.’”
— Mark Hyman, M.D., co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Function Health and 15-time New York Times best-selling author
“Jeff Krasno brings a courageous approach to the most challenging conversations of our time. By applying the concept of adversity mimetics to healing our political divide, Jeff shows us that the discomfort of these dialogues can actually be a basis for growth, empathy, and the recognition of our shared humanity. This book is a profound reminder that facing our fears and moving through them can transform not only our personal lives, but also our collective journey toward a more unified and compassionate society.”
— Marianne Williamson, New York Times best-selling author of A Return to Love

The right idea, invoked at the right time, can change our lives. Drawing from her long studies of happiness, and also from the challenges she’s faced herself, writer Gretchen Rubin has discovered the “Secrets of Adulthood” that can help us manage the complexities of life. To convey her conclusions, she turned to the aphorism—the ancient literary discipline that demands that a writer convey a large truth in a few words.

Historia
We're all familiar with what depression can look like, but there's another, lesser‑known face to this illness. High functioning depression (HFD) doesn't conform to the image of depression that typically comes to mind. As a result, people with HFD often have no idea why they are suffering, or what to do about it. In High Functioning, Dr. Judith Joseph reveals that what we’re feeling is not simply “negativity” or stress, and radically shifts the way those of us with HFD see ourselves, empowering us with five simple tools to reclaim our lives from this widespread yet poorly understood condition.

Historia
Brittany Piper spent most of her life sitting across from conventional therapists recalling the painful stories of her trauma. But rehashing each harrowing event—being put into foster care as a baby, losing her brother in a car accident, enduring a brutal rape and a very public trial, and more—made her even more stuck. At a crossroads, she took her recovery into her own hands. On this journey, Brittany discovered emerging science that explains how and why trauma lives in our bodies, not in the story of what happened to us.

Packed with Digestible Info
Jeff has a unique writing style that keeps you interested with bits of humor, great details, and smooth tone. His protocols are simple but dense with info, and having the ‘why’ behind the ‘do this’ is so motivational. Worth the time and credit.

Almost everything you need to know re: good life
I learned about Jeff Krasno from Rich Roll podcast. One way to learn of people in the know. Near the beginning of the podcast, Rich Roll told Jeff Krasno he really liked his writing style. As the conversation continued, it was clear Jeff Krasno had more than writing style to contribute to anyone interested in getting the most out of daily living, in every way. I pre-ordered his new book "Good Stress" and added the Audible to my library. You will need both, in my opinion.
1) The Audible so you can enjoy listening while learning (he is author and narrator and gets 5 stars for both!)
2) I do the Kindle book in order to be able to highlight, add bookmarks and notes and easily head to the internet on anything in the book to learn in greater detail.
Near the end of the book for my first time through. How many more reads and listens? Don't know, other than many more. Much to learn. Just finished the chapter on Rewilding where he pointed out a simple (well not so simple ... try it) part of his daily regimen, the squat. While I have always had a rigorous and varied daily exercise routine, mostly outdoors, I will add the squat because I think it just might help with a recent challenge ... some lower back stiffness/pain and therefore posture. And therefore, "the good life" at almost 70 young years! You can't go wrong by adding both books to your library. Oh, and while this will likely be something you would never consider doing, add a cold shower to your morning wakeup routine if you want to feel super charged and mentally alert during your day. He'll even explain why, in a creative and entertaining way.
