About this listen

Corin Cadence has been summoned to meet with the Emerald Council, a political summit including the most powerful of all attuned and their closest political allies.

His summons came with a dire warning—that war was coming to the nation of Valia. While Valia is no stranger to warfare, the circumstances of this invasion are dire.

Valia's visage, Tenjin, remains missing. Many of the nation's leaders were slain during Mizuchi's attack, and others killed or injured through Saffron's machinations. With a critical power vacuum in Valia's leadership, few can be trusted.

Surrounded by old enemies, tenuous allies, and strangers with their own agendas, Corin will need to leverage every skill he's learned to help salvage his nation's fate.

Another great work by Andrew Rowe

I have been following this series for some time now as well as his weapons and wielders series. Andrew is a very talented writer, his characters are authentic and feel alive. I am a huge fiction fan and honestly i haven’t felt this way about an author or his books since i was a kid and read harry potter or when i was a teenager and read the hunger games or when i was older and read game of thrones. I am not a literature critic and i am not equipped to appraise the technique or characteristics that make an author or his work “great”. But i consider myself a science fiction fan and an avid reader. And in my own feelings and opinion i would put Andrew Rowe’s arcane ascension series right next to harry potter, hunger games, game of thrones, lord of the rings, star wars, chrono trigger, fire emblem, mass effect and all of my favorite science fiction works that i am forgetting at the moment. If you like science fiction and characters that feel alive and unique please do yourself a favour and read Andrew’s arcane ascension series. Also Nick Podel’s narration is above and beyond.

Corin becoming more annoying

SPOILERS AHEAD. Minor spoilers but have to warn you.
Overall the story was great but Corin is getting ridiculous. Anyone on planet gets hurt and he's in agony because it's his fault for both not stopping it and for not giving e or healing them after. He had nothing to do with it..? Doesn't matter...he thinks it's his fault anyway.
oh yeah, he has a touch aversion in chapter 1 and tells us about it. Then again in chapter 2 and tells us about it. a You guessed it, chapter 3. And yet again and again. It's too much
Also, where was the editor..?? Went and risked 2 lives to try and get a boon to get hand back. When it comes time to ask for the boon his friend with missing hand needs to be talked into asking for her hand back because even tho there is no one else to help she feels guilty for asking..??? c'mon. That's just silly. She was injured so bad she couldn't walk but didn't earn the boon..?
much of story is awesome, especially Karis but stuff like this is just too much.

I want more!

Andrew Rowe is a genius! I love the arcane Ascension world that he has built and I love how deep he dives into magic theory. It makes it more satisfying when the characters accomplish some seemingly impossible task. My only complaints are the book was too short and I wish there was a more robust online wiki page. Haha

definitely taking things to new levels 😄

if you've listened to the other books in this series it's very needless for me to say, but it's an awesome storyline. Watching or rather listening to how Corin out maneuvers people and creatures that simply overestimate themselves and underestimate him, and anything to do with Keras coming in and wrecking everybody's day is extreme entertainment for me and you will love it too if intense survival moments and so on are of interest to you!

Rowe/Podell remain the best

It was a great blend of the particular detail and big action. The clever solutions and fun wins the team gets carries on here.

Are The Characters Still Developing?

So the overall story is good. The series started off strong and the new story arc is fun. What I can't understand is the reasoning behind continuing to keep the group emotionally and socially fragile. Like they have not grown at all; still whiney, still can't handle low pressure situations, and yet still this group of teens for whatever reason have a voice in global governmental and religious affairs. Corin can't talk to his 6 non sexual romantic love interests of various entities, his teachers, or his friends, freezes in a fight still but then when some stuff needs to happen he's briefly batman. I'm getting whiplash.

All in all though decent story, but I do hope the characters find some strength at some point.

Detailed Magic system

Big fan of the in-depth magic system in this series. Getting really invested in the story can’t wait for the next book.
