Publisher's summary

For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

And so, Yui Shaw sets out with an ambitious plan. A 10-step plan.

She'll find a way to obtain the Hero's legendary sword. She'll earn obscure classes, gain levels, and increase her skills. She'll travel to the meticulously-crafted dungeons that seem designed for one specific Hero to complete. And, if she's truly (un)fortunate, she might even find a fairy.

She might not be a Hero - but if she can fake it long enough, she might still be able to save the world.

Another wonderful book by Rowe

Rowe has gone and made another beautiful piece of work, this time in audiobook form. I ate up the Dragon Quest and Legend of Zelda references. The voices of Suzy Jackson and Steve West are absolutely lovely! I cannot emphasize how good of a listen this is. To everyone involved, keep up the good work!

I loved this! sequel PLEASE!!!!

The creative writing from the perspective of a character that lives inside of a RPG/video game world was great. If you are familiar at all with either of these things you are going to love how the story plays with mechanics from both of these. I don’t wanna give any spoilers here but seriously we need that sequel. I need to know what happens next!!!

Brilliant! Huge shout out to Maoyu

I really liked this story, especially because it reminds me of another one, from which this one draws huge amounts of inspiration. No, it's not the Legend of Zelda or Dragon Quest as many people seems to suggest in the reviews (although I totally agree that all the world elements of these two are definitively there; the core of the story, not so much). The story I am talking about is "Maoyu", and it's literally the tale of the intricate relationship of a hero and a demon king to change the world. It is as amazing as this one, but less lighthearted

Totally a legend of Zelda fanfic

Soooo this is as close to a legend of Zelda fanfic as you can get. Since I am a huge fan of legend of Zelda, I personally loved it. Litrpg is an interesting genre. I think this was a well written story and the characters were fun to follow. I especially like the playful banter and witty comments brought up about the plot holes in most legend of Zelda games (and other similar games). I Definitely would recommend reading it!

charming, but not for everyone

I thought about stopping the book early when I heard the narrator and flippant attitude about the story - they were clearly telling the story with a huge "tongue in cheek". about 15 minutes in, I realized that was the charm of the story. the flippant. lighthearted narration I would normally have found annoying was actually kind of perfect for the book. the plot was kind of half witted, but in some odd way, it came across as charming. the D&D leveling and attribute development oddly WORKED in the story, and made it work better. so, while I was annoyed through the first 15 minutes or so, I found the charm and actually enjoyed this mess. it was a very easy listen, especially as "free". overall, all the "clumsy" worked, and made the story quite enjoyable and charming.

An interesting look inside D&D, video games and RP

This would serve as a primer for most people curious about, or wanting to get into role play. A very cute and fun look at how players actively destroy hours and hours of DM work.

Zelda with a creative twist!

Loved this story. Slowly realizing all the parallels between a beloved franchise of mine was great experience. Its clever, funny, and doesn't pull any punches with how basic the story could be told
