About this listen

Great stories are more like a movie than a report. Like a good movie, they are crafted to stimulate an emotional as well as a logical response. They are engaging and effective because they activate the listener's imagination. You haven't really connected with your audience until you've told a story.

This two-part audio is a recording of Doug Stevenson's The Story Theater Method. It is a great overview of the philosophy of the "Story Theater Method" as it relates to public speaking, The Nine Steps of Story Structure, how to choose your stories, and more tips to make your speech memorable and powerful with stories. Doug's form of storytelling for business professionals is a blend of the practical and the theatrical. As a result of utilizing the Story Theater Method, speakers, trainers, leaders, salespeople, entrepreneurs, fundraisers, and business professionals at all levels give more interesting and memorable presentations. Doug will develop your skills through the Four Types of Language, intuitive intelligence, comedy, drama techniques and the Law of 50 Impressions.

Thank Goodness I Can Now STOP BEING BORING!

What did you love best about The Story Theater Method?

I can't express how truly grateful I am for Doug's compact but incredibly informative and insightful 'training' on how to conceptualize, construct, and incorporate story content into a presentation. I'm a funny guy in person, but for years I have had a dickens of a time trying to figure out how to build natural humor into some very serious and dry training topics. The Story Theater Method as presented in the audio book answered that question for me in a most effective way. I am looking forward to using the creative tools provided. I'm gonna make a killing with this stuff, but more importantly, I'm gonna be able to help a lot more people whose brains aren't built for listening to me droning on and on with dull training content. Now I'm going to make a much deeper impact.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Story Theater Method?

When he finally got to the Story Structure portion on the 9 parts. YES! I'm very method-oriented, and was wondering if he was going to cover it in so short an audio book, but he pulled it off.

What does the narrator bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

You can tell the guy loves what he's doing, and that he really wants to transfer the benefit of his skills and experience to the listener.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me cry alright - thinking about all the MONEY I'm going to make because of it!

Everything Doug Stevenson puts out is outstanding. I highly recommend this audio and also his program “how to write a dynamite speech“
