Publisher's summary

The rules: No kissing on the mouth, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and above all.... No falling in love.

Anna Jones just wants to finish college and figure out her life. Falling for star quarterback Drew Baylor is certainly not on her to do list. Confident and charming, he lives in the limelight and is way too gorgeous for his own good. If only she could ignore his heated stares and stop thinking about doing hot and dirty things with him. Easy, right?

Too bad he's committed to making her break every rule....

Football has been good to Drew. It's given him recognition, two National Championships, and the Heisman. But what he really craves is sexy yet prickly Anna Jones. Her cutting humor and blatant disregard for his fame turns him on like nothing else. But there's one problem: She's shut him down. Completely.

That is until a chance encounter leads to the hottest sex of their lives, along with the possibility of something great. Unfortunately, Anna wants it to remain a hook up. Now it's up to Drew to tempt her with more: more sex, more satisfaction, more time with him. Until she's truly hooked. It's a good thing Drew knows all about winning.

Contains mature themes.

Ending a big let down

No spoiler that the girl gets the guy and so on… it’s a romance obviously. But what you want - if you are an avid romance devour-er (lol) is the Story. This being the first book by this author - I am not sure if this is normal for her. I was quickly engaged - and while there were several moments throughout where the introspection of the main female character goes on and on a bit too much too often (which I feel happens a lot with these types of authors) - I still felt that the story is woven very well and the spicy parts were HOT, so overall I thought it was well written…. until the end. For the build up of this story - the intensity of the two and their situation - you would think that there would be a bit more depth and pulling the reader into the remainder of the romance. But it’s like the story was Done. That’s it. OK - on to something else. Wait. WHAT?!? That’s IT!??
What a major let down. Perhaps some would say, well - that’s what everyone wanted to happen - so why drag it out? But isn’t that the mark of a really talented writer? Is to inVolve the reader. To pull them in and engage them into the weave of the interaction between two interesting lives - and then Keep the reader wrapped up into that story throughout. All the way Through The End? After the interest of the story - I was just disappointed at the end with how abrupt it was. Maybe I’ll try one more of her books to see if perhaps any of her other stories engage the reader all the way Through the end. It almost felt as though - once the main story plot line was resolved - the writer had something else to do - so she did the basic minimum in wrapping up all the main point(s) required to fulfill the story line and that was IT. Perhaps it is just that the rest of the story was so Well Done that I’m disappointed the ending was not as thoroughly satisfying and it is just a Me problem? Who knows? Hope others enjoy the entire thing a bit more satisfying than I did.

Probably the best sex I’ve heard in a book in awhile.

I loved how feisty Ana was at first with the sexy famous quarterback when he was chasing after her. Their chemistry is so hot, they can feel when the other enters the room. And when they come close to each other it’s like a powerful need for one another. Only Ana wants to deny it, but one night she goes to a party with a friend and oh boy. There’s one part she will not allow Drew to do with her and when she finally does in his car, it’s intense. This whole book was very intense. Drew isn’t the typical hooks up with every girl that comes at him and there’s a lot. He’s famous on campus as battle bayer. The best quarterback that has a promising future. This story is about a relationship that seems real, an insecure girl scared of getting hurt and a footballer that can’t seem to let go. There’s so many incredible parts in this book. I can’t go into detail but something does happen to Drew that changes everything for the two love birds. It’s sad but the ending is worth finding out about for yourself. Highly recommend listening to the audiobook.

Baylor and Jones are special

The thing I enjoyed most about this read is that you really get to know the two MC. They’re both enjoyably flawed and work through life experiences in a very relatable way. I like books where I fall in love with both characters and that was definitely the case here. As for an abrupt ending like other readers have said? I thought it ended the way it should, when it should. Both narrators were great, too.

These narrators were all wrong!

The Hook Up is one of my favorite books ever, but these narrators did such a disservice to it.

Maxine Mitchell sounds like she’s in her late 30’s/early 40’s and doesn’t convince as a 21 year old Anna. She also reads the book in a flat tone, rather than acting it out, thus her chapters just obscured all the sparkle from the book. Brooke Bloomingdale would have been perfect as Anna in both believability and the magic that is her acting prowess.

Teddy Hamilton is great for Rom Coms but his fake surfer boy accent made a mockery of the complexity of Drew’s character.

I wish I had never listened to this so these narrator’s voices didn’t muddle my experience of this book.

Loved Loved Loved It

Narration can make or break a good story, and Maxine Mitchell and Teddy Hamilton nailed this one. The book kept me listening from start to finish with perfect pacing and just the right amount of unpredictable twists and turns to be believable, but not boring. High recommendations for this one and totally worth a credit.

Drew’s 100 % Certainty

Wow I love when a book can make you reflect on your own situations.

This one was that for me. The absolute certainty that Adams was the one for Drew is what hooked me and the fact that those feelings never changed only faltered is what made this.

Absolutely one of the best I’ve heard in a while.
