Publisher's summary

Despite what you might have heard, diabetes is not a lifelong condition.

It does not have to shorten your life span or result in high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, or other life-threatening ailments. In fact, most diabetics can get off medication and become 100 percent healthy in just a few simple steps. In The End of Diabetes, Dr. Joel Fuhrman shows how you can prevent and reverse diabetes and its related symptoms and lose weight in the process.

The End of Diabetes is a radical idea wrapped in a simple plan: Eat Better, End Diabetes. While the established medical protocol aims to control diabetes by limiting your carbohydrate intake, monitoring glucose levels, and prescribing bottomless doses of medicine, Dr. Fuhrman believes this long-standing approach to fighting diabetes is wrong - and possibly fatal.

Designed for anyone ready to enjoy a healthier and longer life, Dr. Fuhrman's plan is based on a single formula: Your Health Future (H) = Nutrients (N) / Calories (C). Foods with a high nutrient density, according to Dr. Fuhrman, turn our bodies into the miraculous, self-healing machines they can be, which results in significant weight loss, improved health, and, ultimately, the end of diabetes and other diseases.

In engaging, direct, and easy-to-follow language, The End of Diabetes supplies the science and clinical evidence to prove that diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure are not inevitable consequences of aging. They are reversible and preventable. This simple and effective plan offers great food, starts working right away, and puts you on a direct path to a longer, better, fuller, disease-free life.

Excellent suggestions to end diabetes

I’m a nurse and even with my education this book has really helped me understand just how toxic the western diet in America is. My diabetic husband and I are beginning this journey together and I really enjoying the recipes provided in this book. Dr. Fuhrman is so knowledgeable and I wish every physician had his outlook on diet and overall health recommendations.

Excellent!

It was very motivating, inspiring and instructional to listen to Dr. Fuhrman’s book. I started the my new way of eating even before I finished listening to it. Of course I saw the GREAT benefits right away. It even improved my smell and sight right away. I think I need to keep on listening to the book until that new life style becomes a second nature and I am able to
Experience better and better benefits. Thanks so Much Dr. Fuhrman

A life plan not a diet plan to heal yourself.

I am a physician and this is the second book I have read by this author. This is not a diet but a healthy life plan. Choosing food that is good for you is smart. Realizing that my body doesn't really crave empty calories but really wants nutrients is brilliant.

Essentially the book breaks down food intake into two types, macronutrients and micronutrients. Macronutrients are the typical protein, fat, carbs, water, and vitamins. Micronutrients are all the good things in the healthiest vegetables.

Up until now when I dieted I would restrict my macronutrients and I would feel bad, get chills, crave food, and then eventually fail on my diet. I now realize that my body really craves micronutrients that are very low in calories. If I have just vegitable juice that is freshly prepared in the morning (32 ounces) I would be surprised if there were 100 calories. I do not feel hungry until lunch time. If I have a 500 calorie egg, toast, milk breakfast I am starving before lunch arrives. My body is more satisfied with low calorie nutritious vegetables than less healthy but higher calorie macronutrients.

Read the book. Reverse the damage that years of processed and packaged foods have done to your body and get off the road to diabetes.

I recommend this book to you and to all of my patients that are having weight issues.

Inspiring!

The author brings passion and personal experience to this subject. His advice provides hope in contrast to the approaches of the traditional medical establishment. The stories of the successes of his patients make accomplishing the goal of reserving diabetes believable.

Great book, horrible narrator

Where does The End of Diabetes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I am recently diagnosed with Type 2 and this book; although profoundly difficult, brings new hope. Still, I had to stop myself countless times from turning this audiobook off due to the pretentious nasal delivery of the reader. The material is important enough to get through but I will reference my paper back copy.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Joel Fuhrman and Chris Sorensen ?

Actually... Joel Fuhrman was quite good. I'd have him narrate the whole book. His summary at the end was quite refreshing and he did a good job of reading his own material.

Excellent book on the subject

The book make it easy and simple to take this life saving decision. There are eating habits I thought were just fine but this book opened my eyes about them: one example is olive oil

Good book but hard

It's good wisdom but I fear that for most people it will be too hard to follow. Truth is not always easy to swallow, but my intuition tells me there must be an easier more flexible way for long term
