Acerca de esta escucha

There's an ever-growing body of evidence supporting the relatively simple principles that are behind healthy eating - yet the public seems to be more confused than ever. Never-ending promotions of fad diets get in the way of people making healthy choices.

In this revised and updated edition of Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy, Dr. Willett uses eye-opening research to explain the relative importance of various food groups and supplements as well as how to choose foods with the best types of carbohydrates, fats, and protein. He reveals why controlling weight - after not smoking - is the single most important factor for a long, healthy life, why eating some types of fat is beneficial and necessary, how to choose wisely between different carbohydrates, how to pick the right protein packages, and what fruits and vegetables - not juices! - fight disease.

He also translates this essential information into simple menu plans and tasty recipes, providing an important resource for families everywhere.

Very informative

I really learned alot about food in this book. And for the content it was not hard to listen to. the narrators voice was not hard to listen to. The parts where you have to listen to the narrator read recipes gets boring, but that happens when an audio book as things in a list format.

Condescending and Dull

They spend so much time complaining about the USDA and how terrible and horrible they are I couldn't even listen. Just tell me your information, stop whining about how you're the best and you're so smart and everyone else is lying blah blah blah. Instead of stating it, show me!

Room for improvement.

The large amount of recipes towards the end of the book were unnecessary. The format could have been better

The Nutrition Book I was looking for

So, I have been looking for a science Bex nutrition book that actually explains a lot of the research behind more ideal dietary guidelines, as opposed to the ones that are dictated primarily on political compromises due to public policy pressures. And this book fills that gap.

The recipes in the book however in the second half really left a lot to be desired, but that’s more so a matter of personal taste rather than a critique of the concept of the book itself to some extent. The book does a really good job of explaining how to make healthier choices based on what you were already like, the basics of how to read nutrition labels and what to watch out for, and provides for a sample of recipes that are good inspirations for how to continue forward knowing what you know after finishing the book.

The one caveat I would make is that the author recommends cooking with canola oil which is not necessarily one of the healthiest choices you could make. I would remove that from your healthy oil list, and just use olive oil and coconut oil more sparingly. The other thing I would add to this caveat is that he mentions there is no discernible difference between high fructose corn syrup and table sugar, which isn’t necessarily true… Newer research has born out the fact that overconsumption of high fructose corn syrup has similar effects on the liver as over consumption of alcohol, and should probably be moderated/avoided if possible. I think from that I thought this was an excellent overview of contemporary nutrition research(as of the 2017 edition) and I would definitely recommend this book to someone curious about nutrition and looking to make healthier food choices that are sustainable long-term.

Informative, but recipes don't work as audiobook

The book part of this guide was great. I found it very informative. However, I found the recipes very difficult to use. A PDF needs to be included. It is much too hard to listen to the recipes and try to write them down to make it at all useful.

Good information

While some of the information is dated as new research is completed, the majority still holds true. The narrator’s inability to pronounce words such as colon, ketogenic, margarine, etc was very distracting.

very informative

Was a very informative read. The only thing I disliked was at the end I wish I could have the recipes...and they're a little hard to write down while he's reading it.

Could have been a blog post

I cannot understand how one turns what ought to be, at most, 8000 or so words, into this.
