I have just listened to this book for the third time. I love the powerful applicable advice for speakers at any stage of their career. Fabulous book! Can’t wait to implement every single bit of it. not exactly all situation

Good content if you are giving a TED talk. Less so if you present scientific studies or are going to job interviews.

best practical book on public performance

this is by far the best book on public performance/speaking I've read so far..it's very practical, especially for beginners to intermediate, this is a book I would study..the author's narrative is second to none, demonstrating his experience and knowledge in the field and gives confidence to the listener/student..great job Mike..I've read quite a few other books on the subject and they all seem to have good yet different perspectives, but reading these helped me to see the value in this one..I am rarely moved to write a review, but I couldn't help myself on this one..I have a hard time believing that the few bad reviews on this book were even allowed to be posted, they were not helpful,, they were not practical in any way...

yes, and....

I like Michael Port and find him likable and inspiring. The content in this book is basic. Good for those new to speaking and performing. There are some good ideas contained, so it was with the read. I really liked his idea for saying "Yes, and..." to keep and improv going.

Not for interview prep, but for public performance

I bought this book to find out more about public speaking in job interviewing context. This book was not about that despite what it claims in description and throughout the book.

The book is very useful if you prepare and would like to enhance your public presentation skills: whether at a conference as speaker or delivering a message to your team.

Also I found the first part of the book to be a lot of common sense and started thinking about stopping reading the book. It has a lot of useful advices later on and I am glad I didn't stop.

Packed with extremely useful tips on giving performances, this book might be the most practical (dare I say it) manual on public speaking I have read as of yet. It's logically structured, provides summaries in the just the right places, is written in an easy-to-understand language and focuses on the practical uses of each tip by providing relatable examples (imaginary sometimes, but mainly from real life).

I think I'm going to be returning to this book every time I have to prepare a presentation and even write a paper! Yes - it even covers the preparatory steps for giving speeches/performances or, as Michael Port would put it, any type of "show" in your life.
