Acerca de esta escucha

"Like going to business school and therapy all in one book."
—James Clear, New York Times Bestselling Author, Atomic Habits

Once a barista in a small cafe making $6.50 an hour, Andrew Wilkinson built a business valued at over a billion dollars by the time he was 36—and yet, his path to success was anything but a straight line.

In Never Enough, Wilkinson pulls back the curtain on the lives of the ultra-rich, sharing insights into building a successful business that has been called a “Berkshire Hathaway, but for internet companies,” and a surprising first-person account of what it's actually like to become a billionaire.

Never Enough features both the lessons Wilkinson has learned as well as the many mistakes made on the road to wealth—some of which cost him money, happiness, and important relationships.

Taking a "no secrets" approach to stories the wealthy rarely reveal, Wilkinson is unwaveringly honest about some of the unexpected downsides of money: its toxic effect on personal relationships, how the lifestyles of the rich and famous aren't all they're cracked up to be, and how competition with peers leaves everyone—even billionaires—feeling like they never have enough.

In this book, you'll discover:

  • A candid glimpse into the lives of the super-rich and what truly matters beyond money
  • Insights on building a successful business from the ground up
  • Lessons learned from the mistakes made on the journey to his fortune
  • The surprising realities of life as a billionaire and the challenges that come with extreme wealth

In this rare and deeply honest account, Wilkinson examines his journey to nine zeros, what came after that pinnacled number, and the essential things money can't buy.

A sneak peek of a life after obtaining everything we ever thought we wanted

I always suspected that many of Andrew’s experiences would be a core part of becoming a new money billionaire, so it’s fascinating to learn that it’s true in such a detailed and honest accounting.

My notes
- Dunning Kurtis Effect is that you have the most confidence when you know the least about something
- Have a role like a CFO that can enforce fiscal responsibility
- Hedonic treadmill
- Mimetic desire
- With business sometimes you have to decide if you need to kill them with kindness or the edge of a sharp knife
- Invert, always invert
- Rather than thinking about what you want, think about what you hate and how to avoid that
- People aren’t impressed by a person with a fancy car or watch, they are simply thinking I wish I had that
- In reality that things that had made me happy were simply moments of meaning like pushing my son on the swing
- Daily gratitude journal
- The things we own eventually own you
- Search all the parks in the cities and you’ll find no statues of committees
- How to instill work ethics in our children when the need for them to learn the hard way is contrived
- Do we really want to be the 0.2% competing with the 0.1% comparing super yachts?
- Andrew likes to hang out in hotel lobbies and chat people up. Seems like a meta skill.
- 36 questions to fall in love
- Chips on shoulders turn into chips in pockets
- Rich and successful people: Most were like sharks. Automatons unable to stop swimming forward
- Famine, Affluence, and Morality book
- Either it’s hell yeah, or no. Life is too short for no.
- It’s amazing how wearing nice clothing changes people’s perception of you
- Fruits and veggies are aspirational in a child lunch
- A pint of beer tastes the same before and after being a billionaire

Contemplating one of life’s great challenges

My interest in the book was primarily business-related, and I would have enjoyed learning more about Tiny and its investments from Andrew’s own perspective. The book is more of a life story and musings on what it is to be happy. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

I like hearing about Andrew’s humble beginnings and his thought process as he built his businesses. His candidate thoughts on successes and failures.
