About this listen

A troubled past, a magical future, and a new adventure!

After the adventures to secure the gates of hell, Argo finds himself bouncing from contract to contract. A mercenary wizard's life is never dull and it turns fascinating when he arrives in Sekretto. Join Argo and Rekkles as they're hired to investigate an escalation in the region's volcanic activity. The contract to escort the survey teams is especially interesting because it just may be Argo's last.

Hope there will be more!

I loved the flow of this book though I was hoping for a crew to be created in this.
I miss the young girl who was supposed to be training so Argo can come back for her to recruit.

And it seemed like everything built in the previous book is just gone…?

Once you get past that, the story was a lot of fun and I highly recommend it!

Especially the ending, I really like Avril and that she stays with him to be a team!
I REALLY hope there will be another book! But I can see how each book seems to have a soft ending so that they don’t end with cliffhangers.

Can't help but feel bad for Argo

While all the twists and situations happening to the guy make for a fun story, you can't help but pity him for all the bad luck. Though to be honest I preferred the 1st book, but this was still enjoyable.

enjoyable

book 2 continues the story, and keeps decent pace, if you enjoyed book 1 you'll enjoy book 2.

Mercenary Wizard on a giant lizard.

The MC's ride is a giant lizard named Biz, short for Big Lizard. He makes this story over the top.
He's like R2-D2 from Star Wars.
Or Oberon from the Iron Druid Chronicles series.
It would have been nice to have the MC's Golem play a bigger role. Because it's a great supporting character as well.
So our MC is getting more powerful and more comfortable with being a mercenary.
The weird annoying elf goddess is continuing to be both helpful and not helpful throughout.
I'm really enjoying this series.
Well written and well narrated.

I highly recommend this book

Right up front I'm going to say that I recommend this series. When it comes to reviewing a sequel, I am looking for everything that made the first book worth reading and then some. The series is a little bit different as each quote unquote episode is a self-contained story. I'm actually going to put my review of book one below so that you can see the explanation I found from the author as to exactly what this series is supposed to be. As for this book specifically, our hero starts off by escorting some petty noble and there's a dust up right at the beginning to get you into the action. We move on to an escort mission for our mercenary hero which leads to an encounter with some cultists. As the story progresses the cultists keep popping up like cockroaches. And despite our mercenary’s best attempts he finds himself back in the place of being the reluctant hero. At the end of the last book, I was wondering if we would see any of the recurring characters showing up in book two. Personally, I always like it when there's an element of romance in the stories regardless of whether it's the focus or not or detailed or not. I'm glad to see that there were those elements here. Towards the end of the book there were a couple of elements that were quite sad in my opinion, but the story wrapped up in a way that I liked and then there was the added bonus of an epilogue for additional cushioning and preparation for future stories. This is the second audiobook that I've listened to with this narration team and seriously they're fantastic. I really couldn't be any happier with their performances and I look forward to their future work. Lastly, I'll just say thank you to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us the audible listeners.

Book 1 Review

First and foremost, I recommend this story. I have enjoyed a number of stories by this author before. Climbing The Dragon Tower, My Girlfriend Is a Sorceress from Another World, Mayor of Mythos. All of which have audiobooks and now obviously so does this one. I have kindle unlimited which I bring up because even if I'm picking up the audiobook sometimes, I check the afterward on the e-book to see if there's any information from the author when I really enjoyed the story. This book can stand on its own even though the author does plan to do additional books. It sounds to me like the author intends to make each book has its own adventures with the same hero and some reoccurring casts, but if you came in at book two or book 3 and just read that book, you'd be perfectly fine. As for the story itself in this first book we have Argo as the street tough going clean and getting out of the life. The story is of him essentially viewing himself as a villain all the while going from one event to another along his journey helping people. The world is brutal. He crosses a desert. He gets caught up in a “game” between gods. He saves his part of the world, and we move on to the next adventure. Overall, the writing from this author is solid and the storytelling is on point. This book is no exception. The narration team, as this is a dual narrated story, are a couple that I'm unfamiliar with. I think they hit it out of the park. All in all, I greatly enjoyed the story and in fact binge the whole thing in one day. Well done to everybody who had a hand in bringing the story to us the audible listeners.

Fantastic second book in the series...

Another fun story from Han Yang. The action is great, story too. Narration is some of the best in the genre.
