For Noah Vines, death isn't the end. It's a weapon.

After standing around in the afterlife for thousands of years, Noah is all out of patience. When the opportunity to steal a second chance at living arises, he doesn’t hesitate.

Reincarnated into the body of a dying magic school professor, Noah finds that he took more than just a second chance. He got infinite. Every time he dies, his body reforms.

Lives are a currency, and Noah Vines is rich.

With countless variations of runic magic to discover and with death serving as only a painful soul-wound rather than a final end, Noah finally has a chance to wander the lands of the living once more.

This time around, he plans to get strong enough to make sure that he never has to wait around in the afterlife again.

Cool magic system

The rune magic system is cool and the characters aren’t bad. I liked the story and will definitely be getting the next book that being said I’m not hooked on the people.
I think my problem with them was just a lack of development. While there is a couple of personal growth moments they are all somewhat one dimensional. We know the MC was a teacher but little else. You actually know more about the demon than you do him.
He sucks at waiting and drops various wisdom bombs through out, but how or why? It just leaves me wondering.
Still damn good story and narration.

Awesome magic system. Easy to understand but full of possibilities.

loved everything in the story, world building extremely limited so far though, MC appears to have little interest in learning anything but magic so far in his new world.

I’m down or this

Was not sure at the beginning but the length and content got me. I do hope the magic systems get explained a little better in the next book

Good story

The story kept me listening. It’s a great story and the main protagonist isn’t overpowered. Although some of the way Magic works is weird, other than that, I’m getting the next book.

Some strange choices but very good overall

Well written and narrated, will definitely pick up the next one. Characters are likeable and generally competent, world building is weak but it feels intentional for a slow reveal. Main complaint is the lack of isekai aspects other than the frame story. He uses almost no earth knowledge for magic or even really his training as a teacher (besides repeatedly mentioning his duty as a teacher). Doesn't even experiment much with his magic despite know it's flexible and intent based. Can control a wind element and only shoots wind blades with it... really? Feels like a miss in this type of story, but only a minor disappointment overall. Would recommend to anyone who likes the genre.

Fantastic story

Great storyline and appropriate pacing. Thank goodness the author didn’t fall into the bad habit of listing skills repeatedly to increase their word count like other progression fantasy novels tend to do.

Its good but it has its hang ups.

The author always starts strong, but by the end of the book i lost interest, a bit of a slow ending. Interesting book though.

This is Actus Best yet. And I loved every minute of it!

Getting this one was a no-brainer, I've loved Actus since I accidentally bumped into Morcster Chef, then when My Best Friend is an Eldritch Horror was my top favorite series and now I get to meet Noah in the Return of the Runebound Professor and I gotta say that this is Actus' Best Yet! Noah steals his second chance at life, but things are a little wonky, instead of a memory wipe and being born anew he retains his memory and takes over a body that's just died of a poisoning. Noah finds himself in the roll of a teacher and vows to make a difference for his students and for his own life as well. And yes there's plenty of monsters to kill inorder to get stronger! And of course Noah needs to find allies in this strange new world.
So grab the audiobook because Ramon D Ocampo is a great voice actor...

Clever RPG twist on the magic school idea. Go for it!

Clever, well-written, interesting game- like twist on the "magic school" idea.

If you like rusty flying swords, screeching, rock chucking monkeys, and magical intrigue served up with a side of hilarious snark, you will love this book.

Warning, mild spoilers ahead, but I needed to do a lot of research to decide whether I wanted to spend a credit on the book, so here's a vague synopsis of the first few chapters that will likely catch your intetest (I hope!):

Noah comes to consciousness standing in what is literally the longest line in eternity...the line of destiny in the after-life.

Apparently, he was a good enough teacher in his previous life to earn an extra chance on "a higher plane...". That seems great until reality explodes around him in a fight between what appears to be two dieties.

The universe disappears and his soul flies through the cosmos...until it finally lands in the body of a very recently departed teacher from a "magic academy."

Much confusion, laughter, and learning ensue as Noah steadies himself within the new-to-him runic system, trying to establish a new reputation, and to gain both friends, power, and respect...hopefully without others finding out he isn't the original owner of the body...and perhaps discovering who might have relieved the original owner of his own life. Hmmm? The plot thickens.

And this is what got me into the story. This all happens in the first few minutes (or so) of listening (to the many hours of story yet to come), so please don't wind-knife me in the back.

I was listening to Noah's tale with my reluctant teen son as we ran errands, and when we arrived at a stopping point, he remarked that the story was quite entertaining and requested that we continue listening to it during the rest of our trip that day.

Score one for mom AND the author.

I took one star away from the talented narrator because there is quite a bit of "pondering" done by Noah, the main character, and the narrator doesn't really come up with an obvious voicing difference between "head talk" and verbal dialogue, which can sometimes confusing...especially if you don't visually read parts of the story beforehand and expect it.

Otherwise, the book was a treat and I am looking forward to the next one. I might also try a different world/series by the same author. I found portions of this book on Royal Road...and the portions I was able to read were enough to hook me.

Good job and thank you for saving this mom from having to argue about what we were going to listen to in the car for the next several weeks. This book would be fantastic on a road trip. Enjoy!!

Rune concepts made simple. Story peaked at the end.

This is an interesting listen. The story and characters can use a bit more work. The voice actor id say is perfect for that ‘Teacher’ vibe the author is going for. A bit on the slow paced end and took u til the end of the book to build up into an opening into my genuine interest. I’ll give the second book a go as it seems to have finally caught up to the potential of what It can be. Verdict’s still out on this but it was a nice listen.
