About this listen

Anita Blake has the highest kill count of any vampire executioner in the country. She’s a US Marshal who can raise zombies with the best of them. But ever since she and master vampire Jean-Claude went public with their engagement, all she is to anyone and everyone is Jean-Claude’s fiancée.

It’s wreaking havoc with her reputation as a hard ass - to some extent. Luckily, in professional circles, she’s still the go-to expert for zombie issues. And right now, the FBI is having one hell of a zombie issue.

Someone is producing zombie porn. Anita has seen her share of freaky undead fetishes, so this shouldn’t bother her. But the women being victimized aren’t just mindless, rotting corpses. Their souls are trapped behind their eyes, signaling voodoo of the blackest kind.

It’s the sort of case that can leave a mark on a person. And Anita’s own soul may not survive unscathed...

Critic reviews

"Hamilton remains one of the most inventive and exciting writers in the paranormal field." (Charlaine Harris)

"If you’ve never read this series, I highly recommend/strongly suggest having the Anita Blake experience. Vampires, zombies, and shifters, oh my! And trust me, these are not your daughter’s vampires." (Literati Book Reviews)

One of the best in awhile

I am still a huge fan of this series and have read every book multiple times. But like many others I find the first part of this series better than the last few. This one gives us back our Anita with her own life not just running from one emergency to the next. Though she is still doing that too :-). This one is a good mix of the old school Anita who does police work and the newer one who is more willing to consider talking about feelings. Really very happy with it. Now excuse me while I go start my 2nd round of listening to it!

Loved it

Loved it!
Has it all crime detective, shifters, romance and so much more. Kimberly was the perfect match for the voice for Anita Blake. Well done

Will test knowledge of earlier parts of series

I actually did enjoy this book as it filled in a lot of blanks and brought back a lot of major/minor characters from Anita's past. I'm a bigger fan of the Addiction and Obsidian books in the series because of the action and Edward/Ted of course. This ones does take you back to the "Laughing Corpse". However it's necessary to be reminded of Anita's connections to her vampires/were-animals and the pending marriages. Which means we will have relationship issues. I'm hoping the gathering of all this power with these relationships will lead to MORE situations where all that power will actually be used.

Again Kimberly Alexis is the best.

The Executioner Makes a Comeback

Just when I thought Anita's world was nothing more than a Jerry Springer episode of a girl and her harem (Not a bad lifestyle if you can get it, but it shouldn't be the focus.), Hamilton come back from behind to deliver shotgun blast reminiscent of Anita's earlier days as Manny, Zerbrowski, even the cautionary tale of the Señora make appearances.

I heart Anita Blake!!!

Another amazing book for Anita and crew. No complaints!!!! I know a lot of LKH fans have dropped this series because of all the sex scenes but I love it! I love Anita's progression from up tight prude to a women completely and unabashedly confident with her sexuality. While still giving us amazing storyline, action and character development. Kudos for keeping such a great series going!!

Power power everywhere

Mild Spoilers - A new necromancer is putting souls in Zombies and using them for pornography.
Anita gets a personal scare when she raises so much power that her own zombie is too alive.
Anita and Micah connect with Devil and raise so much power that both men can change into another animal that is in Anita’s inner landscape.
Anita and Micah assist Rafael when he is injured through a conspiracy.
Asher again causes chaos with his actions. There is relationship angst, but it’s tied into commitments and politics, so it ties into the larger story, instead of being the focus of the story.
Manny’s son and daughter are kidnapped.
Alexis does a very good job as the voice of the series.

Kept waiting for more...

Slow start. Sometimes scenes feel unnecessarily drawn out making me think, Get to the point! back half of book is the best. Overall it kept me waiting for something to really kick off.
