About this listen

For fans of epic fantasy with adventure and romance, Curse of Shadows reveals a world of unique magic, breathtaking action, and unforgettable love.

Amassia teeters on the brink of the next Great Dying.

The second sun has returned as our Bone Throwers foresaw—casting the nine realms into war.

My name is Ash, and I fell in the battle for Baiseen. But I'm awake now, slowly putting the pieces back together.

My Heir has lost his throne. My sailor is gone. And there is an emptiness inside me I can't explain.

Amid the chaos, someone must collect the original twelve whistle bones from all corners of the world. Marcus is named to lead the cause, but with his volatile phantom, he'll need diplomacy as much as his sword. And we are not the only ones to seek the bones.

Yet succeed we must. Because if we don't, it will be death to all . . .

The worldbuilding in this book is so phenomenal!

When I read "Crown of Bones," I was thoroughly impressed with the creativity of AK Wilder's world and characters, but this book stunned me all the more! There's nothing like it anywhere! I love Ash! And Kaylin even more! 🔥 You have to read this book! It kept me hooked through the whole thing with both expected and unexpected surprises.

This book was so long

Story: 2.5 ⭐️

Oof. This book was long and sure felt long. There was just so much that could have been trimmed from the story so I didn’t feel like it was dragging.

As for the story itself, I was bummed from the start. The end of book one was a huge reveal and a battle starting. I was so excited to see where that was going. I expected book 2 to pick up right where we left off but instead it was weeks after the battle ended and Ash had completely forgotten the reveal. I was instantly disappointed and that feeling carried throughout the book. And then it took the whole second book for the reveal to happen again.

The concept of this story is great. I liked the magic system and I was loving the blossoming romances. The romances in this book definitely took a back burner to the incredibly drawn out plot. Honestly, it was what was keeping me around and it wasn’t strong enough in this book. There were so many storylines going on at some points that I was confused and just not into it.

I’m really disappointed and even though I still have so many questions, I can’t take another 18 hour book that barley moves the storyline forward. I’ll probably just read a synopsis online for the next book.
