About this listen

In hiding all her life, Layala prepares for the day the wicked High Elf King Thane will come to steal her—his powerful mate. She trains to take her revenge for the wrongful execution of her parents, who died for her freedom.

Now that day has come, forcing her to come face-to-face with what she’s hidden from: a dangerous, dark-haired, warrior king determined to marry her.

After she’s shoved into a black carriage pulled by six ominous steeds, Layala makes plans to take her captors’ lives and free herself...

...but Thane has a secret that makes it impossible for Layala to slay him. She has an even darker truth that makes loving her forbidden, no matter how much Thane wants to touch.

Dare to dive into this whimsical and deeply romantic story inspired by Hades & Persephone, The Lord of the Rings, and a sprinkle of Norse mythology. A tale that will grip you from the first moment and stay with you long after the last. Start listening now!

Author’s note: This is book 1 in a series and ends on a cliff. This is an adult slow burn romance with plenty of banter, tension, and a touch of steam. Contains violence and mature themes.

I enjoyed the narrators voice and tone. I think it fit well with this story!

I didn't expect all the plot twists on this(some i did)! I'm hoping the next books are as good! I definitely enjoyed the story and tension! The last 2 hours of the audiobook had me hanging in there just waiting to see what was going to happen! I enjoyed the story!!

Unexpected!

I loved this story line and characters. I am excited to jump into book two. I almost stopped listening because I was not a fan of the narrator at all. I kept going because the story intrigued me but if I wasn’t already physically reading another book I definitely would have stopped the audiobook to read this one.

There were also bugs with the audio book. Two of the chapters are out of order and the last chapter is the prologue all over again.

If you are interested in this book I would say read it rather than listen to it.

Great Story but subpar performance/narration

Love the characters! A badass heroin, a charming snarky elf king, and a hilarious gnome! What's not to like! Love the whole story, characters, and general vibes of the story. I ended up binging all of the books.

I also enjoyed the narration. It's a little different than other audio book performances that I've heard, but I really enjoyed it.

Love the story and the Performance

Why did it take me so long to read this series! It’s been on my TBR for ages, and I’m so glad I finally started it! Pacing, narration, story, ending … so good!

Great!

I have listened to other books by this narrator with her American accent and loved them, but her British accent is so fake that it’s painful to listen to. I wish it had just been read normally - I love the book itself and bought the audio version to re-listen in preparation for reading book 2 but I can’t get through it.

High fantasy books don’t require British accent narrations. Especially not fake accents.

Love this story - hate the fake British accent

I heard so many people rave about this book for me to listen to the story and just feel lacklustered by it. The main characters are neat individuals and some sparks and jabs occurred. However, i cannot help but feel like the plot just died and tried to start over at the end. Also, why is it called bow to the elf queen when she isnt even a queen yet? I dont get it. I will return this book since i dont plan on listening to its sequals.

Disappointed to say the least
