About this listen

A cold case heats up, revealing a deadly conspiracy in a twisty thriller by #1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Goldberg.

A catastrophic wildfire scorches the Santa Monica Mountains, exposing the charred remains of a woman who disappeared years ago. The investigation is assigned to Eve Ronin, the youngest homicide detective in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a position that forces her to prove herself again and again. This time, though, she has much more to prove.

Bones don’t lie, and these have a horrific story to tell. Eve tirelessly digs into the past, unearthing dark secrets that reveal nothing about the case is as it seems. With almost no one she can trust, her relentless pursuit of justice for the forgotten dead could put Eve’s own life in peril.

“Lee Goldberg puts the pro in police procedural. Bone Canyon is fresh, sharp, and absorbing. Give me more Eve Ronin, ASAP.” (Meg Gardiner, international bestselling author)

Surprise ending

Relentless detective work. What will she do without Duncan? Who will have her back? An unexpected surprise ending.

Too short!

I love both the Eve Ronin books. Reminds me a little of the Stephanie Plum series but with more realistic supporting characters. I pre-ordered this book right after i read the first one and Bone Canyon did not disappoint. My only complaint is that it was too short. I'm looking forward to more books on this series.

Series Just Gets Better With Time

Bone Canyon is the second installment of the Eve Ronin series. As we found in the first book, nothing stops Eve from getting what she wants! She is the youngest (and most green) homicide detective for the Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department, with plenty of drama surrounding that. She feels like she doesn't fit in and is constantly having to prove herself, but she will stop at nothing to do that and see that justice prevails.

I am still a relatively newcomer to Lee Goldberg's writing, but have not been disappointed thus far. I also love a strong-willed/minded female protagonist and Eve Ronin fits that bill to a T. She is determined to get justice, no matter the cost, and won't stop until she finishes exactly what it was she set out to finish to begin with. I even absolutely adore Eve's partner, Duncan. He is her protégé/trainer, that is trying to get in as much as he can before he retires. The only thing I will note about that is it was relatively annoying to hear as many times we we did, how many more days he had until retirement, mainly because it wasn't anytime soon. But I enjoy reading about the escapades that Eve and Duncan get themselves into...mainly that Eve gets them into!

Bone Canyon is narrated by the EVER-SO-TALENTED Nicol Zanzarella. I have not found a book that she has narrated that I didn't like, and it didn't start with this one either! She was a perfect fit to the story!

Overall, this was a well-written police procedural story that will keep you excited with every turn of the page until the very end!

I would like to offer a HUGE THANK YOU to Lee Goldberg, Thomas & Mercer, and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of Bone Canyon, which allowed me to contribute this honest and unbiased review.

Eve Series Settles In

Eve Ronin is back for her second procedural in Lee Goldberg's latest series, with entry #3 due later in 2021. Lost Hills, her debut, was a slight misfire for me, the first time Goldberg didn't knock it out of my ballpark. Too much like Bosch, with the key clue, presented early on, overlooked until the end by someone who does not overlook clues.

In Bone Canyon, the wild fires that were the setting for the climax of Lost Hills have revealed human bones, reopening a cold case for Eve to solve. Still very reminiscent of a Bosch novel, but much more satisfying than the prior entry. The final reveal is too far out of left field, no way to see it coming, the opposite problem of Lost Hills telegraphing it too soon.

But that's only a minor quibble, not affecting the entirety of the various story lines. Overall, Eve has settled into her role as maverick detective, and Goldberg has settled into this series.

Watch your back

A new detective, a cold case, the thin blue line and murder. Eve and Duncan are up against the wall.
