Maddie Baker hasn’t seen Detective Noah Langley since he ghosted her a month ago, but now she needs his help to find a missing woman. When Maddie Baker offers a self-defense course, a terrified young woman asks her for private lessons to escape a chokehold. Maddie readily agrees to meet Amy the next morning, but when she doesn’t show up, Maddie becomes concerned.
She enlists the help of Detective Noah Langley and his partner Lance Forrester. Since it’s not an official investigation, and the only thing they know about her is her first name, it’s not long before their hands are tied.
Besides, Noah has a dilemma of his own. A rash of home burglaries has taken a disturbing turn. Noah and his partner Lance feel pressed to catch the burglars before someone is physically assaulted…or worse.
To top things off, Maddie’s ex-boyfriend Steve is in town suddenly wanting her back. Her aunt’s dementia is worsening, and her best friend Mallory has shown up on her doorstep with news of her own.
Maddie’s got her hands full, so she should let her concern for the missing woman go, right? Only she’s trusting her gut, and it’s telling her something’s rotten in Cockamamie.

Love it!!
Shannon McManus and Chris Brinkley are perfect voices for Maddie and Noah.
They bring the characters to life with a variety of tones and inflections. I really enjoyed the dual narration.
The story is so good!! It kept me on the edge of my seat listening. It was a great mystery that kept me guessing till the very end. It had some great humor, and some good romance suspense as well.
If you enjoy mystery suspense with well rounded characters then this is for you.

Great new series.
I really liked the characters and the stories in this series. I fo realized that the main character ( Maddie) is just like Rose in one day of the other series that Denise Grover Swank has written. That's okay because I liked that series also. The narration was really very well done.

Great story!
Loved it! A nice mixture of romance and suspense, with a surprising twist at the end. Great readers, too!

The perfect narrators!
This book 2 did not disappoint. I love these characters! Can't wait for book 3.
I just love Maddie. She really doesn't put up with crap yet she is still kind and truly cares about people. She has an uncanny knack for finding trouble and running into Noah. Ahhh... I can't wait to see where the story goes with those two!
