I really like an exciting, winding, fast paced thriller. Harlan Coben typically delivers and this is no exception. A well crafted thriller is a pleasure and those wanting to pick apart a story looking for holes or unrealistic elements are missing the fun. This was a fun, fast read. Recommend.

A re read

I’m old enough to have read this when it first came out. I pretty much read everything that he wrote back then. I enjoyed it overall, even these 30 or 40 years later, but it’s not great. Not that I need a book to be “great“ in order to enjoy it. I will say I have always wanted, if not a sequel, a follow up of this character. I like Charlie and would love to see what happened next and where she ended up. It’s possible he wrote this into one of his short stories or Novelas that I just missed.

I had never heard of this author and the reviews were fairly lukewarm but something about the synopsis hooked me and I am so happy I took a chance. Loved the pace, the story, the main voice talent, the character development…the whole kit and caboodle! I wouldn’t call it a nail biter but it’s very engaging.

Still very enjoyable

I’ve listened to the first, second and third in this series back to back and, normally, at this point I’ve had my fill of a series but I’m really, really enjoying these books! There’s a large cast of characters, sometimes I get lost, but mostly it keeps things interesting and I’m eager for more. LOVE the recipes at the end!

Fun and engaging

I’ll listen to a lot of thrillers and mysteries and a lot of nonfiction history and sometimes I need a break. As far as cozy mysteries go, this series is fantastic. The woman reading the books is very good. The characters are interesting and it’s not overly cliché. And the mysteries, at least for me, were intriguing and not easily figured out.

Just what I wanted!

I was starting a painting project and I wanted to listen to some thing that was easy and fun. This was perfect! The story and the writing are both really pretty good and the performance was excellent. The character development was very good and I felt honestly invested in the lives of these two women! The ending/resolution was not the most shocking, surprising or satisfying, but I see why it was done for this first one. I will certainly listen to the next and hopefully the next after that in this series.

Not what I expected

I came for an action packed, dramatic natural disaster and was assaulted instead by d*&k swinging military guys, frustrated and frustrating scientists and annoying bureaucrats. What? So many others really enjoyed this so I am prepared to accept that my expectations may have clouded my judgment but I really did not enjoy this. I’m familiar with both of these authors and have enjoyed many, many of their works but I wish I could return this one.
