About this listen
Detective Inspector Alison Raines is a woman dedicated to the job, that job being to protect her city and to speak for the dead. Her uncomplicated world is coming to an end with a cancer diagnosis that will cut short a life that revolved around work and little else.
Her answer to rapidly approaching finish line is to tie up the cases that no one believes are murders but her gut tells her otherwise. Sure that not every accidental death is what it seems, but with her condition rapidly deteriorating and her medication regiment taking its toll on her ability to think clearly, those around her have come to question a judgement previously untainted.
With a fiercely loyal partner that only ever wanted to learn from her at her side and a rational scientist by his, Raines is about to enter a labyrinth of dark supernatural terror that defies belief.
Raines is forced to open herself to the friends that she never knew she had and to the fact that perhaps she never knew as much as she previously thought about the criminal world that existed around her. With her own time running out she will be faced with the ultimate life and death decision.
Sometimes the world needs a hero, sometimes it needs a monster.
