About this listen

My best friend warned me about the end of the world.

Growing up, she was the girl down the street. Even then, I knew she was different. She was tough, rough, and had the strength to stop a speeding car with her bare hands. We were as thick as thieves, sharing every adventure.

Then one day she revealed a secret. She wasn't from Earth. She was from a distant place called the Arcadia Multiverse.

Her people lived under the rule of a god-like entity known as the System.

That System had its gaze fixed on Earth. And it was only a matter of time before it came for us.

But long before the System arrived, she vanished, leaving behind only a strange token that now dangles around my neck.

Yet, her parting words stayed with me. The System was bound for Earth. And when it came, I'd be ready for it.

I would triumph over this System and the new world it brought with it. And then, perhaps, I'd see my friend again.

From the author of Paladin of the Sigil and the Spellheart Series, delve into this thrilling LitRPG Apocalypse and prepare for the end of the world, teeming with monsters, magic, and lovers aplenty. Coming to a universe near you!

Good, but very derivative towards the end

I'm really enjoying the series. I think Jack and Jessica do an excellent job with a narration.

I like the length of the story but a lot of it ends up being very typical and sort of bland towards the end.

Carter, Sakura, and Bridget have unique personalities but end up defaulting to "oh he's a big strong man and we are helpless girls." lul wut?

Sakura is literally a giant fucking Oni berserker, Carter is a puny caster. Why contrive a way for her to be less physically strong than him? It's stupid and only serves a trope that the man has to be the alpha asshole of the group.

Why not have women of different appetites? Have the submissive girl, have the dominant girl, and have the main character react to both differently.
More importantly, don't make contrivances to bend the archetypes that you want to tell the story with to be able to fit a very narrow sexual spectrum. Variety is the spice of life.

As for the system:

There's a heavy emphasis on stats and levels early on, but it just kind of disappears later. There are level notifications but they don't seem to really matter and they stop talking about stat points.

if you're going to have a system, make the system matter throughout and keep it consistent with how the system matters. Don't just glaze over adding 20 points to a stat when getting a stand above 10 with such a huge deal earlier.

Also, for the love of God quit having the male narrator narrate the female chapters. If it's from a female's perspective, it should be Jessica reading it, not Jack.

Great Book1, can’t wait for the Sequels

What did you like or dislike:
The world building is really good, albeit we’re only shown a small part (shard) of the universe they’re now in for book1, I can see how the author can expand it more for the sequels
The LitRPG and stats/skills are also pretty nice, not very encumbering for the listeners unlike the more traditional LitRPGs that dumps stats after stats on the listeners (which can get annoying after a while)

Whom would you recommend this book to:
Any LitRPG/apocalypse/system fan really, it does have a HaremLit relationship in the mix which I can only see as a plus

Why did you choose this rating:
5/5 for the author
5/5 for the narrators, tho there are some drops in the voices here and there

Highly Recommend

eBook Review

Seriously I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it to anybody reading this review. I don't remember exactly how I came across this author originally but I have gone through all of his spell heart books. I can't wait for the next one of those to come out. I'm trying to catch up on his Paladin one which I believe is now finished. I had heard that Amazon apocalypse was a new one that he was working on. Here at the back of the book it states that he's been working on it for approximately 2 years and the sequel is set for 6 months later which would be February 1st of 2024. He did state so that date would be the latest it would be out. There is some possibility that the sequel could be out sooner which would be awesome. Our story takes place on what appears to be contemporary Earth prior to the Apocalypse initially. Our main character has a lady best friend as he's growing up until one day she disappears only to reappear once more briefly to warn him of the pending apocalypse. The system is coming to Earth and with it a lot of death and destruction. There was definitely surprise halfway through the book which was pretty interesting it when my opinion as it sorta kind of gave a Peak behind the curtains. The book was a fairly good size in comparison to those that I normally read for entertainment. That being said now that I'm at the end of the book I'm definitely hungry for more and kind of bumped out that I have to wait for the sequel. I definitely hope that the book gets the audiobook treatment and that the narration team is the top notch performance Duo. Lastly I'm simply going to say Well done to the author and anybody else who had a hand in bringing this story to us, the Amazon readers.

Audio Book Update

I'm overjoyed that the book received the audio treatment. To be perfectly honest it is my preferred form for storytelling as it allows me to enjoy entertainment no matter where I'm at or what I'm doing with a few exceptions. The narration team executed a fantastic performance in my opinion. They are definitely on my top ten list of all time favorite narrators. My praise over the book has not changed one iota from when I first went through the story in eBook form. I am still very excited for a sequel which appears to still be on track for the aforementioned release date. Amazon and by extension Audible get a little temperamental when other sites or companies are mentioned, but there is a certain website that allows authors to draw funding directly from supporters and in return usually put-up early chapters along with artwork occasionally. This author also uses that service and as of the time of this review the first 46 chapters of the sequel are available. Lastly, I'll simply say a round of applause for everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us, the audio book listeners.

A real fun read

I really enjoyed this audiobook. The only downside was the audio mix between the two narrators was off a little bit so that’s a female lines were noticeably quieter than the male lines but not so much so that I couldn’t listen to the book

Can’t wait to see what happens next!

Definitely a good choice. I haven’t been this invested in a book in a while so I can’t wait to read book two.

Audio Mixing is Bad, Book is Good

If you like Marvin's stuff, this is another one. It moves along at a brisk clip and is an enjoyable story once it really gets going. But the audio mixing really lets this one down. Jessica is about half the volume of Jack, so one min you will be unable to hear dialogue, the next you will get exposition that blows out speakers.

Gold

This book is long. Probably should be cut in two.
Jack and Jessica are awsome.
I'm not a fan of system litrpg build books. Still this one is good. Not as good as the mark of the fool or he who fights with monsters but still gold for a lit rpg.
Book is 10% adult and 90 percent story. Its a good ratio.
Story is good. Don't know why it is called the amazon apocalypse. There are only two or three amazons in the whole book.
Characters are solid. Mc is not a whiner. Makes plans, follows them out.
Side characters are well defined. Not allot of back story but still not bad.

Defiantly going to get book 2 when it comes out.
