About this listen

Henry never realized he was special. Sure, he’s an engineer who served his country, but when the virus hit, he found himself alone in a nearly empty world.

That’s the key, though: nearly empty.

There’s no one left who has the technical know-how to make the world run again...except for Henry. For humanity to survive, he will have to rebuild society out of the motley crew of survivors. It might be impossible, but at the same time, Henry has always loved a challenge.

Started good but went downhill fast. Once the sex between the 30 yr old MC and the 18 yr old cheerleader happens. It's story sex story sex. Just gets annoying. At least he didn't make the mc 18 and the cheerleader 14 like most of the pedo apocalypse authors.

Mc gets run off the road by a "Kenmore" I thought I heard wrong but after hearing Kenmore 20 more times I realized he got run off the road by a guy driving a dishwasher I guess.
Then it turns into a military action hunting the driver of the dishwasher. Just gets boring, dumb and repetitive. Like most other apocalypse books. Nothing special here.

He could of wrote a great story with this but totally blew it. At least it was free.

Started good

I would have returned it. Cliche crap about woman sharing the star. Younger girls wanting the older man. End of the world crap with no real originality

If I had paid for it….

It wasn’t a great story and was maybe the most unrealistic end of the world book I’ve ever read. But it’s free on my Audible subscription and as a “keep me company” book as I drive. It wasn’t horrible.

It Wasn’t As Bad As the Reviews

Henry Forest, an ex-Army engineer woke to a quiet house, his grandmother dead, knowing that something was wrong. Heading to the nearest town, he found everyone dead. Jackie, a young college girl, maybe 19 or 20 saw him on the interstate. Coming back to find him she introduced herself and they became friends. After Henry buried his grandma, he accompanied Jackie to her home and helped bury her parents. Henry and Jackie stayed together. Jackie, seeming older than her age stays at Henry’s farm, working together to make Henry’s farm sustainable in this crisis. They knew not what had happened but it appeared to be a virus of some sort. It didn’t take long for them to become a couple. They scavenged farms and stores every day gathering supplies, food, and livestock. It’s a very interesting and well-developed story. The relationship interactions are great as well. I like it and plan to invest in the series.

Henry and Jackie!

I really like the story line and the narrator. I thought the love story aspect of the book was a little far fetched for a book sci-fi book with a realistic story line and the explicit scenes were a little to graphic. I was also kinda disappointed in the authors lack of knowledge on firearms for a book filled with them. Overall it's a decent book with a good plot.

a decent book

First, the narration of the main character wears thin very quickly. Trying way too hard to sound like some cowboy or Sam Elliott knockoff. Then the story itself as he seems not the least bit bothered by waking up to a world where nearly everyone died, then conveniently meets everyone he would need to build a new community, all with special skills and not completely crazy. I finished the book but won’t bother with the series
