Cal, along with a small group he met in NYC, desperately flees inland away from the targeted coastal cities, but chaos follows them around every corner.

A bit techy but a really good read

Great story line. Will be getting three rest ppd the stories. Lots of technical details.

Well done

Unlike almost all of these post apocalypse books I read, this one I really liked. The story was well structured, the characters acted like I would expect characters in the described scenarios to act and the plot was believable. I only caught two small issues. One, submarines don’t track contacts using radar and two, the navy doesn’t have medics. They have corpsmen. On to Book Two…

Characters

I thought the characters were well developed, over different time periods, and much of the action proceeded from their emotions. Great description of emotions and background, and good pacing. It’s one of those really satisfying good reads you want to look forward to every day.

Fair

I agree with another reviewer here with regard to having to leave a written review, instead of just a star rating. Until recently this was still possible. I think more people would leave a star rating if a full review was not compulsory, giving a better representation of the audience's opinion.

Come on! Y’all is hard to say

I enjoyed the general premise but it was very distracting that the narrator has such a terrible way of saying y’all. It’s not plural and not used every time a person is referenced. It’s really only used for more than 1 person.

Great plot with interesting characters, some who had surprising inner strength. I would highly recommend!

Riveting fall into chaos

The premise of an entire nation descending into chaos certainly evokes a morbid fascination, akin to that unsettling feeling as you drive by a horrific car crash. The intricate plot unfolds with a good deal of detail, making the "how" and "who" clear from early on. The characters are vivid, one of Devon's best skills, definitely drawing me in to want to check out the subsequent books in the series, to see if the other authors are on par.

If you like very masculine stories than..

If you like very masculine stories than this book is for you. I like survival stories but this feels like it was written by an ex military guy who doesn’t know women very well. I do like the characters and the story however I feel it ended abruptly and feels like half of a book. There is a lot of detail about military things and guns but little detail on civilian areas. The woman’s dialogue feels like a man wrote it. I don’t even normally notice things like that. A good story though and I would recommend it other to read.

Good performance

Loved the narrator but the story was underwhelming. It had all the elements of something great but it just never developed. I wish too that there was a pause between chapter transitions. The quick changes to a new POV were confusing
