Acerca de esta escucha

Matilda Boseley's adult ADHD diagnosis was a massive, earth-shattering event. She was given a prescription but had no idea what ADHD meant for her identity, her relationships or her future.

Twelve months of confusion later, journalist Matilda embarked on an epic voyage to figure out what's really happening in the stormy seas of the ADHD brain and write the guide she wished she'd had.

The Year I Met My Brain is the ultimate travel companion for navigating and enjoying life as an ADHD adult, covering:

- what adult ADHD symptoms look like

- why so many ADHDers (especially females) are missed as kids

- how the disorder impacts our relationships, careers and self-esteem

- why we unfairly treat ourselves like failures - and how to find self-forgiveness and healing

- practical tips for social and organisational wins

- and, most importantly, how to make our lives work to fit our brains rather than trying to force our brains to fit our lives.

Uplifting, empowering, deeply researched and sparkling with 'a-ha' moments, The Year I Met My Brain is an invaluable resource for ADHDers and those who love them.

A must read book for anyone navigating ADHD!

Last week I was diagnosed with ADHD at 31. Amid the flood of emotion and feelings I turned to TikTok for relief. After hours of scrolling I came across mention of this book. The tag line sounded like exactly what I needed at that moment.
The content that Boseley was laying down hit home. I enjoyed every minute of this book.
Boseley manages to simultaneously present a variety of data, studies, and expert opinions all while tying in personal exploits and experiences. Even while going though the data and details related to ADHD Boseley’s voice shines through clearly. My wife and I are going to listen to it together now.
It is nice to have this as a companion as I navigate my own ocean brain from here on. As I set sail on my own journey, I am grateful for everything this book armed me with.

Looking in a mirror!

I felt like I was getting to know my own brain! A cathartic story that mirrored my own personal experience so much at times I thought I was reading an autobiography. But then it’s filled with helpful tactics, research and next steps for adults, like me, who find themselves newly diagnosed.

The facts about ADHD.

The facts about ADHD were mind blowing, depressing and enlightening, also somewhat helpful. I wish the author would have researched more holistic approaches, especially for those who can’t afford medications and therapists. She was extremely pro-medication.

Excellent work!

Thank you, Matilda, for bringing your diagnosis of ADHD as one who happens to be a young adult and a woman to light. It was informative, very personal, well researched, and extremely well narrated. The resource you’ve created can also help those of us who have someone with a similar path to yours in our lives. Thank you so much again and hopefully you’ll continue to write about your experiences in the future.

Authentic and Validating journey

This book helped me on so many fronts, I can't even begin to explain them. I was able to share it with my partner to better understand me, and we have been getting along better than ever. I'll be sharing this with my neurospicy group that a coworker and I recently established at work (while listening to this book)!

A warm, funny, fascinating and highly informative account of life in the first year after an ADHD diagnosis

With a deft and highly amusing touch, Matilda Boseley takes us through the emotional (and often hilarious) rollercoaster ride of her first year after her ADHD diagnosis in her mid-20's. Part memoir and part highly informative guide to navigating ADHD as an adult, this audio book (beautifully narrated by Matilda herself) feels fresh, extremely well-researched and highly relevant. The insights Matilda gives into the history and our evolving understanding and attitudes towards ADHD are particularly fascinating. And her accounts of gluing her feet into her boots and riding her bike into Albert Park Lake never get old! A true gem, and I would say essential reading if you are, or are close to, an ADHD person. Genuinely brilliant.

I met my brain

This book was informative but the author keeps it very engaging with humor and scientific data to explain the why behind it all. Must read!
