Fleet Admiral Streth has left Rear Admiral Jeremy Strong the difficult task of holding the system of Careth until he can return with a relief fleet. Jeremy is facing impossible odds as the Hocklyns and AIs gather a massive force to crush his fleet and the defenses he has put in place around the bear's home planet. Cut off from the Federation, Jeremy and his people have no idea whether the Federation still exists or if the Hocklyns and the AIs have destroyed it.

They also discovered it was only a matter of time before the Trellixians reached Earth.

After the destruction of the Dyson Sphere and six Simulin worlds, the situation in the Triangulum Galaxy calmed down. For over seven months, the people of Gaia and the Lost Fleets knew peace. The Confederation consists of the seven oldest races in known space. They control a vast section of the galaxy. All races in that part of the galaxy are subjects of the Confederation and forced to obey the Confederation’s laws. The Human Empire is well aware of the Confederation and has been careful not to intrude upon Confederation space. However, now the Confederation has decided the Human Empire has grown too large and needs to be brought under control of the seven races.

Fleet Admiral Jeremy Strong is determined to preserve the planet Gaia as the new home of the lost fleets. Unfortunately, a new and frightening danger from the destroyed Dyson Sphere threatens to undo everything he has fought for. Kazak, the AI on the Originator ship, has his own agenda. The Federation is pushing the Hocklyns steadily back, but they still vastly outnumber the humans and their allies by hundreds to one. Fleet Admiral Hedon Streth has to defeat them before they develop newer and more deadly weapons. In a bold move, Hedon comes up with a daring plan to attack the Hocklyn home worlds. If he succeeds, the war will be over. And if he fails then the Federation will face imminent defeat.

For over six years, the Lost Fleets have been trapped in the Triangulum Galaxy. Every day has been filled full of danger as the galaxy conquering Simulins search relentlessly for them. With the arrival of the Distant Horizon, a daring plan is made. A message drone will be sent back home to give them warning of the deadly danger the Lost Fleets are facing. The Vorn have returned with a massive fleet and are once more harvesting the intelligent worlds of the galaxy for food. Every fleet placed in front of them has been annihilated by the Vorn's superior weapons. The Vorn seem unstoppable as they harvest world after world.
