Haymitch!!

I think I just had higher expectations for this one. Haymitch is my favorite and I think I just wanted a bit more development. this is a political story so the stakes were definitely there but it still felt too on the surface for me personally. I wanted to connect with him more.

Emotional Damage

Emotions damage that I knew I was going to have but read it anyways. It wants me to write more words.

Such a good prequel to the hunger games.

An amazing and well spoken story of Haymitch Abernathy. Suzan Collin’s is truly a spectacle of our generation. The way she tells stories will never get old, but my god what this emotional. I cried around 4-5 times though out this whole book. Amazing, spectacular and well done story once again. Might be in my top 3 for all of the hunger games books.

The end hits harder than just about anything else I’ve ever seen heard or read

I cried I never cry over books or movies and it took everything in me not to sob this story was told to perfection

Reminded me of why I love this series

This book perfectly recaptures the same magic of the original trilogy. I am taken back to being in school and reading them for the first time. I literally finished this in less than a day. An instant favorite!

Rich characters and connections

Absolutely love this book! Thoroughly enjoyed how it acted as a bridge between ballad of Songbird and snakes and the original hunger games book. Can’t wait to see the movie adaptation! Would even love a retelling of the hunger games series from Haymitch’s point of view. Even Snow, Plutarch, etc.

Breathtakingly beautiful and tragic

Susan Collins has always been a master word weaver, she has a talent for painting such a picture. The original Hunger Games series has been very dear to me since I was a young teenager and I never thought they could get any better but I couldn’t have been more wrong. She has truly outdone herself this time, Sunrise on the Reaping was the missing piece that we never knew the storyline needed. It has truly brought on a whole new prospective and depth to many moments from the original series.

Now onto the narratio, I will admit I was wary of the narration pick just because I am so attached to Tatiana Maslany’s performance for the original trilogy. I am a firm believer that the narration will make or break an audiobook, and Jefferson White absolutely did this book justice. Much like Tatiana Maslany, White gives each character life with not only their own unique voice but a proper portrayal of their personalities. The performance just added to the absolutely captivating writing.
I will not spoil anything for others but prepare to go through many many emotions along the way.
