Unfortunately, Effie is also quite delusional, having convinced herself that fellow local artist Jock Fleming is in love with her and that they are engaged. But after a lover's scrap with Jock, Effie is found dead, poisoned by hemlock.

Sir Philip Sommerville is quite the antique, but not too old to bring home a paramour: fat, vulgar and greedy Mrs Budge who, the other poor relations are agreed upon, has to go. And then there is Lady Carruthers, a highly rouged widow who passes off her grown daughter, Arabella, as a school miss while setting her own cap for the young Earl of Denby, despite the fact that young Arabella is quite smitten with the dashing golden-haired earl! So once again it is up to the other poor relations to straighten out the course of true love...

Fergus wird durch seine neuen Befugnisse tatsächlich zu einem Tyrannen, und als seine Leiche in einer Mülltonne gefunden wird, tut es niemandem leid - noch nicht einmal seiner Familie... An Verdächtigen mangelt es also nicht.

Agatha Raisins Eheglück war nur von kurzer Dauer. James hat sie verlassen - allerdings nicht für eine andere Frau, sondern für Gott! Nun ist Agatha wild entschlossen, das James-Desaster endgültig zu vergessen. Deshalb kommt ihr der merkwürdige Todesfall, der ihr buchstäblich vor die Füße geschwemmt wird, gerade recht: Eine tote Braut treibt im Fluss, den Brautstrauß noch in Händen. Die Polizei geht von Selbstmord aus, doch Agatha zweifelt. Der schrille Verlobte der toten Braut hat Dreck am Stecken!, da ist Agatha sich sicher.

There are many ruined castles in Scotland. One such lies outside the village of Drim. The keening wind explains the ghostly noises, but when Charlie falls through the floor, Hamish finds the body of a dead man propped up in a corner of the cellar. After Charlie is airlifted to the hospital, Chief Detective Inspector Blair arrives to investigate the body, but there is none to be found. Dismissed as a drunk making up stories, Hamish has to find and identify the body and its killer before the "ghost" can strike again.

Frühling in den Cotswolds. Agatha Raisin langweilt sich fürchterlich, zu lange liegt ihr letzter Fall zurück. Nur ein Streit im Nachbardorf sorgt für etwas Abwechslung: Ein Mineralwasserhersteller will sich für viel Geld aus der örtlichen Trinkwasserquelle bedienen, was die Dörfler bis hinauf zum Gemeinderat spaltet. Als der Vorsitzende des Rats ermordet in der Quelle treibt, sieht Agatha das Ende ihrer kriminalistischen Durststrecke gekommen. Mit Inbrunst stürzt sie sich in die Ermittlungen - und muss rasch erkennen: Dieser Mörder ist mit allen Wassern gewaschen.

In den Cotswolds gilt Mr. John als genialer Friseur, weshalb die Frauen bei ihm Schlange stehen. So auch Agatha Raisin. Denn der Selbstversuch, ihre (wenigen!) grauen Haare zu färben, ging gründlich schief. Gut, dass Mr John noch einen freien Termin hat. Und wie es scheint, findet der charmante Friseur nicht nur Agathas Haare reizvoll, sondern auch ihr Herz. Doch als Mr. John vergiftet wird, endet ihre gemeinsame Zukunft, bevor sie überhaupt beginnen konnte. Ist der Täter eine Kundin des Friseurs? Der Verdacht liegt nah, meint Agatha und geht dem haarsträubenden Fall auf den Grund.

Lady Fortescue vient quant à elle à la rescousse d'une jeune fille à qui sa mère entend voler la vedette lors de la saison mondaine.

Was für ein Blödsinn!, findet Agatha. Dennoch möchte sie einen guten Eindruck im Dorf machen und behauptet, einen Kriminalroman zu schreiben, der Tod auf dem Landgut heißt. Das hat ungeahnte Folgen, als auf dem nahe gelegenen Landgut tatsächlich ein Mord geschieht und Agatha unter Tatverdacht gerät.

In Schottland wird Sparsamkeit ebenso bewundert wie schöne Zähne. Daher haben Dr. Frederick Gilchrists günstige Preise und sein Talent, Zähne beinah schmerzfrei zu ziehen, dem Arzt eine große Patientenschar eingebracht. Vor allem die Damen rennen ihm die Tür ein. Weisere Highlander - wie Hamish Macbeth - halten sich trotzdem von seinen allzu beschäftigten Händen fern. Dann beginnt jedoch ein Zahn in Hamishs Mund unaufhörlich zu pochen, und absolute Todesqualen treiben den Dorfpolizisten in Gilchrists Praxis.

Stille Nacht, tödliche Nacht. Agatha Raisin hat mit Weihnachten zwar nicht viel am Hut, aber ihr kleines Dorf Carsely war schon immer stolz auf seine Festtagstraditionen. Dieses Jahr jedoch hat John Sunday, ein Beamter der Sicherheitsbehörde, gerade die besinnlichen Tage als Zeitpunkt gewählt, um gegen das vorzugehen, was er als grobe Fahrlässigkeit ansieht: so ziemlich alles. Selbst der Weihnachtsbaum entpuppt sich als Sicherheitsrisiko. Doch damit ist Sunday eindeutig zu weit gegangen. Kein Wunder, dass er bald tot im Vorgarten des Pfarrhauses gefunden wird.

I tre säsonger har Lady Margery Quennel agerat panelhöna.
