Personne n'aime être dérangé en pleine lecture de l'Annabase un samedi après-midi par un coup de sonnette intempestif. Surtout pas le commissaire Guido Brunetti, fin lettré et flic épicurien, et surtout pas pour une sombre affaire de permis de construire introuvable concernant son propre appartement... La piste est fragile, mais elle permet au commissaire Brunetti et à l’inspecteur Vianello de remonter jusqu’à un abattoir situé sur le continent, à Mestre, où règnent le chantage et la corruption.
