“I am married to an amazing woman, and we have great kids. I also carry a huge secret deep inside: I am gay.” Accepting truth about sexual identity after living outwardly as straight is terrifying and incredibly difficult to maneuver. Some fool themselves that this will be just fine, some have been caught exploring their sexuality, and some consider drastic steps to spare themselves and their loved ones from this truth.

At a time when most of the public discourse was dominated by men, Anna Julia Cooper’s writings offered a blistering rebuke to that status quo. The essays and speeches collected here anticipated the debates about racism, sexism, and intersectionality that we are still having today. "Leave now, or die!" News for All the People reveals how racial segregation distorted the information Americans received from the mainstream media. It unearths numerous examples of how publishers and broadcasters actually fomented racial violence and discrimination through their coverage. And it chronicles the influence federal media policies exerted in such conflicts. It depicts the struggle of Black, Latino, Asian, and Native American journalists who fought to create a vibrant yet little-known alternative, democratic press.

Nobody knows what to do about queer Mormons.
