• Couch Talks: Tricks To Stay In The Present
    Sep 18 2024

This week, Kat responds to a listener question about staying present during stressful moments. She shares her favorite technique to help when feelings of overwhelm or anxiety start to creep in—the 5 Senses Technique (Something you can Taste, See, Hear, Feel & Smell). Whether you're struggling with anxiety, feeling overwhelmed, or just need a break from it all, this simple yet effective exercise can bring you back to the present. Kat explains how you can use this method in everyday life and even create a go-to "sensory kit" to keep on hand when things get tough.

  • Dating After Divorce with Amy Brown
    Sep 16 2024

This week, Kat sits down with Amy Brown to talk about life after divorce. Amy shares how her marriage came together quickly, and how she once believed she was ready for it but hadn’t taken the time to understand her own wants and needs. Now after personal reflection and growth, Amy opens up about her dating life and how she discovered she had been living by others’ expectations. They break down that through therapy and self-reflection, she’s implementing the "both/and" mindset—grateful for her past relationship, even though it ended, and is ready for what’s next.

  • Couch Talks: Meaning Making Overdrive
    Sep 11 2024

Couch Talks is the bonus episode of You Need Therapy that comes out every Wednesday where Kat answers questions that listeners send to kathryn@youneedtherapypodcast.com. This week, Kat takes a break from the usual Q&A style to explore our obsession with finding meaning in everything. She reflects on the idea that constantly trying to explain or justify every experience might disconnect us from living fully in the present. She encourages embracing uncertainty and letting go of the pressure to "connect the dots." Sometimes, things just are—and that's perfectly okay.

  • Breaking Free From Christian Patriarchy
    Aug 26 2024

This week, Kat talks with Cait West, author of Rift: A Memoir of Breaking Away From Christian Patriarchy. Cait shares about her childhood growing up in the Christian patriarchy and how she found the strength to escape a life of serving the men around her. She was homeschooled and expected to live at home as a stay-at-home daughter until her father allowed her to marry a man he chose for her. No college and definitely no career. As she grew older something deep inside Cait told her this wasn’t how life was supposed to be – and in her 20s she did the most brave thing, she left to build a life of her own, getting a real job for the first time and eventually graduating college and starting a career as an editor.
