• Eating Nutritiously on a Budget - For Families, Teens & College Students
    Nov 13 2024

As economies throughout the world are seeing rising prices and living costs, food insecurity continues to rise. More families are tightening grocery budgets to get by. But it doesn't mean we have to sacrifice nutrition in the process.

In this episode, my guest Kimberley Gillan shares her journey from experiencing food insecurity to becoming an advocate for eating nutritiously on a budget. Her experiences inspired her new book, "How Low Can You Go: Nutritious meals from $50 per person per week " which offers detailed guidance on how to plan and prepare nutritious meals on a tight budget.

The main point she wants families and young people to understand is the importance of nutrient-dense foods. Listen in as we discuss actionable advice on navigating the supermarket, avoiding food waste, and making the most of dehydrated goods. And of course, we cover the unique nutritional needs of teenagers and young adults, ensuring they receive essential nutrients to thrive.

Whether you're a teen, college student, or parent, this episode is packed with valuable information to help you or your loved ones eat well and stay healthy on a budget.

    Oct 23 2024

Feeding Disorders (ARFID & PFD) are relatively new when compared to other more established and commonly understood eating disorders, so it can be difficult to find factual, up-to-date research-backed information and support. Plus, because it's not typically considered a teen disorder, it is overlooked, misdiagnosed or confused with an eating disorder such as Anorexia Nervosa.

In this week's episode of the Healthy Teen Life podcast I'm joined by Jaclyn Pederson, CEO of Feeding Matters, to discuss the intricacies of feeding disorders in adolescents.

In particular we cover the two often overlooked conditions of Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and Pediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD). If you're a teen, young adult, or a concerned parent who believes yourself or a family member to be a picky eater, you'll want to listen in.

The episode highlights the signs, symptoms and importance accurate diagnosis; treatment options and the multidisciplinary approach needed for effective treatment; the role of genetics; how to advocate for yourself or a loved one; how to navigate the complexities of these conditions; and where to access resources that provide guidance and support.

This is one of the most comprehensive episodes on Feeding Disorders for adolescents you can find.
