About this listen

There's a killer in Sanctuary, and the prime suspect is a horse!

Spirited Ember Burns is led back home to open her own veterinary practice, and her first client lands her in the middle of a murder mystery. When the evidence points to the horse as the cause of death, she vows to protect him.

But horses don't talk and neither do the dead, so Ember has to rely on her intelligence and instinct to get to the truth. A truth buried under layers of small-town secrets. Some that are big enough to get you killed.

Battling a reluctant Sheriff and pushy Mayor, Ember struggles to get her business off the ground while digging deeper. Why would anyone want to kill the local farrier? And who was plotting to stop her? As the town gears up for its centennial celebration, Ember is led from local ranches to the surrounding mountains in her quest. Can she unveil the true culprit before they get away with murder?

A funny mystery!

Cozy mysteries are quickly becoming my go to read or listen when I am in the mood for a light mystery. Tara Meyers' You Can Lead a Horse to Murder is a laugh out loud mystery. While it sounds like a contradiction, it's accurate. Let me explain. There is a murder in the small quiet town of Sanctuary hence the mystery aspect. But between the high jinks of a labradoodle and MC Ember's quick tongue and sass, the seriousness of the book is lightened and actually works quite well together. This audiobook is the first of Tara Meyers' work that I have had the pleasure of listening to but she is definitely going on my TBR list. Tara creates a beautiful small town setting with endearing characters in her Secrets of Sanctuary series.

Cris Dukehart is fantastic as the narrator bringing the story to life through my speakers. She nails Ember's personality in her delivery.

Really, really good!

I was prepared to like this book, but I didn't just like it, I loved it! The setting was one I could easily identify with having grown up in rural areas of the PNW, so I loved that. The premise was unique as well, as our heroine, Ember, is a veterinarian who gets sucked into the mystery to prove the innocence of her patient, a horse. I also really loved all of the characters, human and animal, they were really well developed, believable, and mostly likable. I can't wait for the other books in this well written series to be available on Audible!

I also thought that Ms. Dukehart's narration was great, though she's a bit of a fast talker so slowing the speed to .90 made it just right .

A fun story

This is a entertaining story with a interesting variety of characters.

The Narrator made the story a more enjoyable listen by having a good command of the material.

Great Story!

I was really pulled into this cozy mystery by Tara Meyers by the title, then blurb, and the sample. I have always loved horses and mysteries, so this was an automatic instant attraction. I found the story to be well written and I loved the twists. I thought the author, Tara Meyers did a great job at developing the characters and had great imagery and some humor. Without giving away spoilers, the ending is awesome. I did not figure out who the killer was, which is something that I really enjoy. Cris Dukehart did a great performance. She gave the characters distinguishable voices and inflected the right emotions. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Fun and Sassy New Mystery Series

This was the first book I have read by Tara Meyers but she is now one that I will be watching for. This story has everything I enjoy from a great cozy mystery - suspense, mystery, danger and best of all comedy and a little light romance. She did a wonderful job with the plot and keeping the mystery going with enough twists that it kept me guessing. I also really liked how the narrator portrayed Ember, I felt like she nailed her personality and made the whole story even more entertaining. It's just a fun read, it has it's sad or emotional moments that you connect with the characters but there's enough comedy throughout to also keep it light.

Fun Cozy Mystery!

Dr. Ember Burns is working hard to establish a veterinary practice in the town of Sanctuary. When a farrier is discovered dead in a horse stall, she begins an investigation to discover what really happened.

This is a great cozy mystery that balances the elements of murder mystery and intrigue with fun, smart characters in a believable setting. This is a great start to a new series. I look forward to reading more!

Delightful start to a new series.......

You Can Lead A Horse to Murder was one of the best cozy mysteries that I have ever read. Tara Meyers describes the characters and setting with enough detail to make the story come to life without bogging down in minute details. Unlike some cozy mysteries, the reasons for Ember, the heroine, to be involved in the solving of the murder were completely reasonable and believable. The author introduced many possible suspects, and the actual villain and motive were a complete surprise. I hope that the author will continue the series with many more adventures for Ember, Mel, Becky and the other fun characters of Sanctuary. I'm especially interested in the development of her possible love interest (no spoilers with a name!).

Cris Dukehart is a wonderful narrator, and she made this enjoyable book all the more enjoyable. I received a copy of this book from Audio Boom and the author in exchange for an honest review, but the combination of Tara Meyers and Cris Dukehart is one that I will be purchasing in the future.
