Amazing Book

Great overall.

The only thing is that the main character knows he is not going to be the best swordsman or warrior. He knows he needs to defend himself. Why would he have not spent time developing a combat spell all ready? If I nearly died, I would have already developed a combat spell. That’s the only gripe I have about the book. One of the those intentionally hold the MC back moments.

Excellent

I have seen this book multiple times but never purchased it since I don't care for naval or seafaring stories. So, with a ship on the cover, I didn't bother. After reading the first couple of books in the author's A Soldiers Life series and listening to the audible versions of the rest, I figured I'd take the plunge with this series.

I enjoyed the plot immensely and was surprised that the ships in the story were not a focus. That said, due to the MC's interest and the current events, you can expect them down the road.

General Summary: A chef is in limbo meeting an administrator who would evaluate his past life and calculate his merits to determine his afterlife or standing in a reincarnation. The MC gets a chance to build his new incarnation and chooses what affinities he would be born with and to what degree. Due to circumstances, he rushes this and selects things that would give him the most potential to lead a luxurious life.

Since his talents were geared more toward a mercantile and craftsman build with healing potential as a backup, he entered the new world. As you can imagine, his plans seem to be on track, but danger keeps finding him. So, he decides to train under a weapons master with his best friend. This inevitability derails his plans, though I don't think he has realized it yet.

Our main character won't be the greatest fighter in this world and is definitely not OP (not in this 1st book anyway). But he has the potential to be the greatest in another area, and while likely not achieving a comfortable life, he wished for the many events and personal encounters he experiences to bring him a life of adventure he hoped he would not have.

I thought this was an excellent story; the character and personality were consistent and showed some growth. I will definitely be continuing this series.

Similar style and tropes to A Soldier's Life, but that's a good thing. Fresh characters and situations, enjoyed the character interactions. Infrequent stat readings, which was greatly appreciated. Like this author, followed, looking forward to more of his consistently enjoyable high caliber stories. Nikola Hamilton did a fantastic job with narration, very convincing gender voices. I didn't even realize he took over for A Soldier's Life in book 3, that's how smooth the transition was.

Amazing!

This series is going to be amazing, you can feel the passion in this writing. The progression is great and I think I can guess how this is going to progress but I still can not wait for the other books. This and a soldiers life are both amazing and both worth the read. And I hope the author keeps this narrator for his books as I feel he really gets this authors passion and brings his characters to life.

The Book started out a bit rocky for me but then I started to get into it. And now I am salivating for the next one! Hurry Up!!!

Can’t wait for the next book. This was a great start to the series. Only thing we need is to give our boy some offensive spells so he is not getting his ass kicked all the time.

It's interesting

The voice acting is Great.The overall story is not that bad. Unfortunately, the Ending. seems a bit rushed. There are quite a few story lines that don't go anywhere or just disappear. The worst one in my opinion is the mc was given some good books to just Try and convince someone to do something but then never Brings it up.
