Good story so far

I like it. I hope the author focuses on strengthening the main character more in the sequel as I love a pretty much overpowered MC. Other than that, maybe increased development of the MC’s territory. Looking forward to the MC’s family entering the mix also.

Magic system

Great book! It reminds me of another series but I love the story line. I can’t wait for the next book to come out in audible.

One of the best of the year

Some reviews say he was supposed to be an all powerful wizard but from what I got he was merely the last, not the most powerful. Just a 5th circle..where their were quite a bit more lofty titles. Also the MC was from a dying world where he grew up a street rat then isolated by the end so isnt the most socially adept. Honestly felt like that, like a powerful wizard that had little experience beyond battle and magic.

Now the story itself was engaging, a few mysteries to be left wondering about. Good MC and side characters. Plenty of future knowledge to implant yet not OP level just enough if done right that could change the future. Enough hardships to seem setbacks but not feel like unrealistic author roadblocks or plot armor defeats of them. It was well balanced.
No real cliffhanger ending yet left wanting more.
All and all a great book and decent narration.
If done right and put out fast could rival and of the other major progession fantasy out there.

Fun regression/kingdom building story

It has some similarity to Legend of the Arch Magus, but the complete opposite. Furthermore, it’s just fun in general. I love seeing the difference in perspective of those of the ancient times and the protagonist. Highly recommend

Recycle

Recycle of Legend of the Arch magus. Enjoy some aspects of it more, but cannot get past the almost identical situations, like I understand tropes and such. But this isn’t that. Others might not mind if they haven’t read/listened to the other. Narrator was fantastic though.

Amazing beginning to a grand tale

Love this story so far. Want more world building in the next book. Lamenting that I have to wait so long for the next audiobook.

Narrator does a great job, just as in Path of ascension.

What fun, you're gonna love it!

What absolute fun. And I loved it. As you can tell it's about a mage! 😆 And Kai the last living Survivor in a world now filled with dead mana, and he's gonna die once the mana fiends break down the door. In a last ditch effort he made a ritual circle that's gonna send him back in time so hopefully Kai'll be able to rewind the clock, stopping the events that brought about the collapse. Only... he was rushed and his magic went horribly wrong. When he woke up he found himself in another man's body just as that body was recovering from the death blow it had received in a different ritual circle. Huh?!? Questions, Questions, Questions. And What? Where was his magic? Was he a mere mortal now? Can he make a difference in this new reality? And what the eff, there's a mana fiend? Could he be able to stop it? Mana fiend huh, some things never change...
So yeah if you wanna find out what Kai's goin through you'll hafta grab the book better yet get the audiobook. I seriously didn't want the book to end.

I wanted to like this

I wanted to like this. In fact, I did mostly like this, right up until the author had the main character blithely ignore basic reason and invite a complete stranger who had invaded his home to go on a crucial mission. It completely shattered my suspension of disbelief. There was literally no good reason to do that, and every reason to have the stranger thrown in jail. I'm sure that the author wanted the stranger for book 2 reasons but didn't give the reader any reason to want to see more of this character who was, at best, incredibly irritating.

The plot is just a copy of the first book from Legend of the Arch Magus except he goes backwards in time rather than forwards and he is only a Magus so weaker.
The narrator was great and it's not a bad story, but it is definitely heavily drawing on the Legend of the Arch Magus
