About this listen

Magic runs the world. It wins wars, grows crops, enables trade, and even fixes the crapper. If magic runs the world, then the men and women who wield it rule the world. But not all witches and wizards are created equal.

Rhett Allen is the thirdborn son of a minor lord trying to figure out his life after university. When a sudden family catastrophe throws his plans into chaos, he must make a decision. Should he do what people expect him to do or chart his own course? With all the gold to his name, he sets off into a chaotic world of dangerous creatures, even more dangerous humans, and other situations that no thirdborn should face alone. Thankfully, he meets a few good women along the way.

Warning: Thirdborn is 18+. It contains adult situations, language, violence, and harem elements.

Not Sure

Didn't care for the MC, but liked the story as a whole. I'll wait till next book to see if he grows on me.

White God? Really?

White God? Seriously? White God? Half the time I listened to this, mentioning the “white god” makes me think they’re racist. & I’m not even an sjw & this made me cringe. The MC is a moron, I mean I love listening to his books but this one is just meh. I really tried to like it but the MC is just seriously stupid. & not likable stupid, but the kind of stupid that you wish he’d die already.

Painful

This was so dam painful…cringe writing. The MC is a little pansy about EVERYTHING. He wines about everything and with little to no protest, he allows his sister to send him off to pretty much die in a war with a guy she barely met… on top of that, the description of the book has next to nothing to do with the actual plot.

not sure what the author is trying for here but it didn't work. the start is to much problem for how much you get to know the MC

it was a well executed miss

writing style was fun performance good.but I didn't like the MC I kept hoping he would become better as the book wnet on but he was the same the whole way thru and in the final battle got his butt kicked and scampered off. just very little redeeming about him. probably won't get book 2

Overall a good book

a lot of the other reviewers say it's laking something or it's bad, but i take it as a slice of life of a mage that is not that powerful and is an adult teen that still says bad words and talks about boobs "who doesn't like boobs (; ". if you have read or watched Grimgar of fantasy and ash, basically another slow non op mc and some real possibility of dying, so the characters have to take it slow or they might die by monsters. very good recommend the watch or read whatever form you prefer.

well written beginning

I tend to take it easy on the first book of any new series as they can be rather shaky to begin with. I actually read this book first when it first came out. this is not the first series that I've read by this author and so I was very interested in what new book he was writing. overall the story was interesting and similar to what I've come to expect from this author. I did remember not liking the ending. with that said I completely forgot that it was my intention to continue series but only as an ebook. when this release I saw the narrators who had signed on to perform the story and immediately picked up the ebook. I enjoyed the performance from both of them and I think they did a fantastic job. in my experience sometimes narrators get assigned to work where there's dissidence for lack of a better description between how the character is written and the person assigned to the performance. not everybody's got a voice like James Earl Jones. in this case I think the gentleman narrators voice really matches up well with the idea of something of a petulant Noble with a chip on his shoulder. the second book is out now which is one of the reasons why I picked this up now. I cracked the speed up to 2x so that I could Blaze through the story refreshing what had taken place before I started book 2.

just wow

I liked this book so much I also got in on audible and let me tell you. the narrators do this book justice. Alexa Roosevelt does An amazing job voicing the few female cast that appear while Jack Douglas keeps all the voice simple and different at the same time

Potentially good in the future.

The title says it all really. There is potential but wow this one is boring. I hope the future books have more substance. I hate the MC as of now. He has perhaps one redeeming quality and a negative intelligence attribute. He may grow up though, as we all do. The writing isn't bad. The story has potential. However, This book fails to grasp and hold attention. While other books that continue the story may serve as a bonding agent for the story as a whole, the first should pull the reader/ listener in. Unfortunately, for me, this book failed to do so.
